What kind of concrete do you use to make your stones?I would love to train mine more, but the ones I have are VERY slick.I use just a little tacky on my fingers, but would like to train more without it.Ive practiced with other peoples stones without tacky, with no problems, but mine seem waaay too slick.I dont know if Im mixing it wrong or what.I know there are probably a ton of threads like this, but any help would be appreciated.

What did you use to release the inside of the mold? You may have some residue left over from that...use paint thinner or gasoline to clean them. I have never seen one that slick though.

So if someone wants to save a couple bucks and make their own, you won't give advice? That doesn't make sense unless I'm reading that wrong.
Aaron, mine came out the same way. The only thing I can tell you is that once you get a film of tacky over the stone after using it for a while, it gets better. You might do like Jesse did and rhino line the outside of it, LOL. Good luck man!

I use Quickcrete 5000.
I've noticed that a "wet" pour and lots of vibrating to get air bubbles out will make for lighter, very smooth stones.
A "dry" pour is heavier and may cause some surface pits. But it will be heavier and a bit rougher.
not much,,,, but maybe it will help.

Mine came out pretty rough, but has smoothed out pretty nice with the tacky. The concrete I use had a lot of gravel. I don't know to much about the different types of concrete, but if mine would have had less gravel it prob would have been smoother. Don't know, just shoot'n that one out there for ya incase it might help.
Good luck bro.

Thanks for the replies.I would probably buy stones from Jesse,as they really look like quality stones, but I live in Indiana, and Im sure the shipping costs alone would be insane.I cant remember what we lined the mold with, but Im sure thats off by now.I leave my stones outside year round too, which may be what is causing them to be so slick(???)Thanks again guys

Surface finish on stones much more related to amount of water, vibration, cure time, and mold finish than it is to the type of concrete.
I train with some rough granite stones that are left outside all of the time. With the exposure to the elements, there isn't ever any tacky on these.
If you had a slick stone and left it exposed to the sun all of the time, i expect there would be a lot less tacky on it than one that is stored inside.
Some people will paint their stones with tacky.
