This might be a stupid question but I wanted to know what kind of mat you guys use for stone training. I would like to be able to drop stones from my platform but I'm afraid they will crack on the rubber mat I have. Anyway, this is a great board with alot of great advice. -Thanks

De loading stones is a great workout, and easy on the stones too.
Or: we use stall mats from a feed store. They go in horse stalls and dairies for the animals to walk on, so they are sturdy.
And: when de loading heavy stones (or when we are lazy) drop them on a couple of tires. Watch out, they will bounce!!!
One thing we learned down in NM from Clay and the boys: drill some large holes in the side of your deload tires so the air blows out, that way, your stones are less likely to bounce up and hit you in the chin.
good luck

hey nick..
well..for starters...most of the time some people get "stall" mats from a feed/farm store..like southern states..about 35 bucks for a 4'x6' by 5/8" mat, the are heavy and dense and do a great job..
but if you wanna drop stones like jesse and them do..probably need about 3 layers of mats..or a steel plate under a couple matts...or..make a platform out of "sandwiched" 2x4's..with plywood on top...then a mat or two...
I guess there's a few ways to do it...I still use tires to unload..but think I will try doing stones on the asphalt covered by a couple mats and see how that works...
any one else have any suggestions...I'd love to be able to bounce my stones too...makes rep'n alot easier..

thanks for the advice. I'll probablly run over to the feed store and grab two of those mats. Droping the stones into the tire takes too long, i'd like to start loading the stones 15 times in a row like Jesse and the rest of thoe freaks!

I priced stall mats from Tractor Supply two days ago. The really thick 4'x8'x3/4" mats are $45 each. I am getting two, and putting them side-by-side on top of two sheets of 3/4" particle board (also side-by-side). This is for my deadlift and power rack platform.
My overheads, stones, farmer deadlifts will all be done outside on a gravel/mulch mix, so I don't care too much about deloading.
