Harrison flew out to Albuquerque last night, but United managed to keep his bags in LA. Thankfully, they were delivered this afternoon and Dan was so happy to get it he was going to make love to the guy who delivered it. At the time, Dan was covered in tacky so I don't think the guy would have gotten away!
Holy cow, we did so much training today. Started before 11 a.m. with farmers walks for 50ft. Dan hit a PR by smoking 340 per hand twice without any drops. We then cinched up our collective cojones and loaded up to 410 per hand. Dan went a couple steps before his grip gave. I made the world's hardest pick-up and went 30ft before something in my collarbone tore and I stopped short. It still hurts like hell. But my grip was solid and I know I could have gone over 50ft with those weights without any drops. Travis came by and hit a PR by taking 300 per hand for nearly 60ft without drops, then bringing it back without any drops again.
Then we moved inside for some log action. Dan put on a clinic and nailed 310 a couple times easily. Travis hit the 225 log for a couple singles. I missed 310 maybe 10 times, then Dan questioned my manhood so we loaded up to 315 and I missed a half dozen more times. I DID have one rep locked out at 315 but wasn't able to control it and lost it forward. I got some great tips on how to improve my press from Dan and will try to not forget them.
Next up was the yoke, and I had to cut my yoke training short today because of the tweaked lower back I got last weekend doing the yoke. I worked up to 575 for 20ft before my back was killing me. Travis hit a PR by taking 755 for 15 ft with a couple drops. Since Dan's bag wasn't here yet, he didn't have his belt or his proper shoes, but he did a sick beltless yoke walk. Video is forthcoming :)
We went back inside for the car deadlift training. I matched my previous PR of 625x3 and then beat it by doing 695x3. Since the loading pin was full, 280lb Dan stood on the apparatus while I lifted. When it was his turn, I stood on the apparatus for a total weight in hands of about 800. He gutted out a nice triple as well. My collarbone was starting to hurt on the heavier weights so I opted not to go any heavier.
The 800lb tire had been sitting in the sun all day and was HOT, but we all got in a set of 8 flips with it. Dan and I did all 8 flips in one motion each and Travis was kicking ass on that tire too. Despite being sore and a little mentally fuzzy, this went better than we all expected.
Then it was back to behind the garage to do the stones. I know what you're wondering - no, nobody broke my window! We worked on doing the 230 stone to the 72" platform. Dan and I each did it a few times after working out a few bugs in the technique. Travis fought like a warrior to get the stone up to the higher platforms. He sustained some pretty gnarly wounds to his face and shoulder from fighting the stone. But he never complains. Come to think of it, Travis never complains about anything, ever. Dan tried the 350 to 64" but it wasn't to be. I did the 350 to 60" after about 30 seconds of wrestling, then did the 350 to 56". Travis tried the new 18" stone that weighs 310 but couldn't quite get it. It was just poured on Wednesday so it was still real wet. This worked against us because when Travis dropped it, it split pretty badly. So, it was time to put the stone to rest, and I was happy to send it to its grave by popping it off my chest and onto the ground which demolished it. FUN!
Then we got some McDonald's, hit a BBQ at my sister in law's house, then came back for more grip stuff. Did some axle deadlifts, plate pinching, Inch dumbbell attempts, Dan did some sick stuff with the Inch that you'll see in the video. Both Dan and I cleaned my 278lb, 2" thick handled dumbbell with two hands. Shawn came over and showed us what a freaky grip he still has by cleaning 2-35lb plates with a pinch grip. Sicko. We did some overhead lockouts with an axle and...well...you'll have to see the video of Dan to believe it. Then did some phonebook and card tearing, axle hangs, I bent a couple spikes, did some hammer levering and probably other stuff that I forgot about.
It's about midnight now and we're watching WSM finals on DVD. I'm not quite sure that we're done training for today. I'd say we made the most out of the day. When we weren't training, we were eating. What better way to spend a weekend?
