Do bands and chains have any place in the traditional Olympic lifts or variations? Just for variety's sake, I was thinking about doing some pulls -- clean or snatch high pulls from a hang position -- with either bands or chains for a cycle of a few weeks to see if it did anything.

Has anyone ever tried this?

I know a few guys that have used them on push presses with success.Ive even heard of a few guys that use bands on jerks. One of them said it forced him to become more explosive from the start, and get under the bar faster.Personally I would rather use chains than bands on most explosive lifts, but the bands might be worth a shot??

I've always been afraid that if I miss a jerk with bands, then what I've done is created a 300lb slingshot that would make Wile E. Coyote proud and be on a collision course with my skull. :)

I've messed with it a little. Haven't focused on olympic much lately though. I've had Bristol do snatch pulls with chains. I really like those.

I used a reverse band setup for a while, with the bands choked around the top of the rack, so that the bands fell off the bar about 4 or 5 inches short of lockout. I think that really helped me learn to drop under the bar. Its definitely worth a shot. I used the light bands.

you use rev band for snatches? that's interesting. I'm still in the learning process of the snatch so not ready for that yet, but was just curious.

No, not snatches. I was talking about jerks, from the rack.
