How many of you do rack deads on a regular basis? Do you see much carryover to regular deads? For the most part for me i seem to feel rack deads in my grip and shoulders, but very little if at all in my lower back. Is this normal, or should i try lowering the pins until i can feel it in my low back? Just wondering.. In the past rack deads have strengthened my grip a lot but have done little to improve my deadlift weight.

Where are you setting the pins now?It could be that you are dipping your knees under the bar,and using more of your legs to get it up,which is puting more stress on your shoulders, and less on your back.Since a heavier weight can be used that way, then your grip will be taxed more(althought you cant/arent supposed to do this in a contest).Ive done them so much in the past couple years since 18" deads always seem to be in the contests that I do.Now Im only going to do them for the 2-3 week prior to any contest I do that has an 18" deadlift event.

Right now I'm setting them slightly below knee level. I think this is normal. I suppose my grip needs to be worked more than my back also, so I think I'll continue as I am until my grip catches up.
