Conan's Wheel event was a favorite of Kearse's when he watches on TV.

"They pick up carry that stick all around," he said. "I like that one and I like one where they put the Atlas Balls on the different levels."

I'm going to be training tomorrow- carrying my stick all around and playing with my Atlas balls! :M:

When I first read your post I thought it was something your young kid said (don't even know if you have one) and thought "isn't that cute. Then I clicked on the link and thought "isn't that sad"

All those hits have definately taken their toll. What morons, Walker said he'd be faster than all of those guys on the stones, Simoneau said he'd not like the log press because it shifts back on you over your head. There is no way that he could be faster on the stones, and why wouldn't the log go over your head, it's called an "overhead" log press. Why do we pay them so much?

We pay them so much because football is the best sport to watch on television.

Adam of course Walker would be faster  ! he is a NFL Defensive Tackel!!! Their conditioning is far better then the likes of most strongmen. Darwin is 6'3 294 and runs a very good 40 time. Maybey he wouldn't get all 5 stones up but certainly he would have he speed/conditioning for it.

>Simoneau said he believes he would excel at the squating events. He said he has a 600-pound raw squat to his credit.

One of many funny/sad quotes. 600 whole pounds!

These guys were just having fun talking about a sport they like and watch on TV.
NFL players - and really football players in general - are a big part of strongman's fan base.
And they can talk a little trash if they want...it's all good.
When Kevin Nowack won the 105K National title, Eagles players Sam Rayburn and Scott Young stopped by a taping for FOX Philadelphia (done at Mustang Expediting) that was being shot to promote Kevin going to China for the World Championship.
They just wanted to be part of it and meet Kevin.
The do not know the events like you guys and they shouldn't have to, they're just (famous) fans.
Young is on Kevin's right and Rayburn is to his left...photo by Francis Gallo.

certainly there are some NFL players that would make great strongmen. but atleast we also know it would put quite a few of them in their place too!!! :N:

i think that top level shot putters Adam Nelson and Christian Cantwell would be awesome to see try out strongman, they are strong and very athletic

“I’d be alright at that,” the 6-foot-5, 310-pound center out of UTEP said. “I’d have a little height advantage over a couple of those guys.”- Trey Darilek

An NFL center has better conditioning than the top strongman competitors? No way :BB:
"you can derri-lick my balls"
anyone know what movie that is from?

It's cool to hear NFL players commenting on strongman. Anything that gets the sport more attention is great. I can't fault them for believing that they'd be better at strongman than some of us - it's no different than me yelling at a lineman on TV "What the heck! I could have made that block!!!" haha

I would imagine the avg NFL lineman has better cardio/muscular endurance conditioning than the avg pro strongman, some of whom don't even do cardio. After all, most pro strongman hold down a full time job, some have families, and cardio is usually the 1st thing cut when they don't get to work out as much as they want. The NFL lineman, at least outside mini camps/training camps/pre season/regular season/post season have 5-6 months of the year when they have all the time in the world to workout, and I'm sure ample time during the season to get in weightwork outside of all the cardio they get from practices/games.

"Why don't you derelict my balls, Han-solo?" Hahaha... good movie.

As for the comments of the pro football players, ignorance is bliss.

Whats with the negative reactions? I read what I considered to be a lot of positive comments about strongman. And as for calling it a stick, or atlas balls or whatever? Outside of the christmas broadcast of worlds, espn's broadcasts are irregular at best and rare at worst - so how the heck would they know anything about it?

I imagine their comments would be like my knowledge of the lacrosse games I watched in college. My high school didnt have lacrosse, so I never played it, but I watched a few of the games my college played because I enjoyed it. Beyond a few basic rules, I could barely tell you a thing about the game. It's not stupidity, just a lack of info. Not their fault

Now the majority of major pro sports atheletes may be prima donnas, but I would think the majority of the NFL players aren't rocks because you have to have a decent amount of intelligence to master those massive playbooks. I just couldn't resist making the comment about the stick and balls.

I don't think anyone is calling the NFL players stupid re: their comments. It is kind of funny, however. They're very well trained athletes but it's insulting to well trained strongmen who dedicate their lives to the sport, only to have someone say "I could beat his performance." These NFL professionals have no idea.
Sure, sure, fans react to games of football (or any other sport) with passion, claiming that they could have done better; but is that how they really feel? I doubt it. I could bet you one thing, not a lot of strongmen will say they could out-perform the best football players in the world when it comes the actually playing football. Of course, there may be the occasional exception, but that's a rarity.

If you were to walk into a lacrosse game and say that you could outplay the guys there, with barely an inkling of knowledge in regards to that sport, you'd get laughed at too.

Oh, and I'll add this:

I think it's awesome that strongman is getting to the point where people are actually talking about it. Publicity is good in any form. There's always a positive.

Some of the college- and proplayers actually use some strongmanevents as conditioning...at least the ones coached by Joe DeFranco:

The strongmanpictures are at the end of the page. You can also read some articles on his site about his philosophy regarding strongman training for athletes.

 some of you guys who think strongmen have better conditioning then pro football players are out to lunch! Obviously you've never played it competitively

You guys are making me laugh.

Seriously, me too. For some strong, legitimately tough guys, you all sound like you need to take some Midol, lol

I wouldn't take offense to anything any of those guys said, if anything most of it (especially Jevon Kearse's comments) were very complimentary to the sport.....it was kind of all good-natured, half-serious stuff, like if a reporter asked everyone at the WSM contest what NFL position he'd like to play or what position he thought he'd be good at, you shouldn't be expected to reply with a disclaimer or anything. Seriously, re-read it, I don't think anybody knocked Strongman or downplayed the strength and abilities it takes.

This has nothing to do with the topic at all. Hey Tony, I'm at work reading this thread. Some guy just walked by and said "Jesus, who is Tony Moses? Look at the size of his back!" Though you would get a kick out of that
