View Full Version : rediculous working conditions

I was at work yesterday here in Germany and it was nearly 100 degrees out. I was called out to work a write up on a C5 at about 6am and was out there until 2:30pm. That's not the bad part, the bad part was that I was the only person in my specialty(Comm/Nav) and had to work a repeat write up that the crew said would work on the ground, but not in the air. How in the hell do I check this? I do happen to know that the system I was to work, the HF radios, have a component in the tail of the C5 that has to be pressureized because the area it's in is not. So I go back there and come to find out how much hotter it is in there. I had it checked, 130 degrees! I was in there for over 8 hours. I have never been so drenched in sweat in my entire life. Now I wasn't in there the whole time... I had a 20 min lunch break. I tried to stay hydrated, but it was useless, the heat was too much. I was covered in grease, hydraulic fluid, sweat, and I was angry that I had to be in here and I knew there were people inside playing dominoes. Gotta love the military. But I sucked it up fixed the problem, and an ass load more that came up after I finished in the tail, and went to the gym afterward. I didn't have a bad workout either. It wasn't as heavy as I wanted it to be, but I push pressed 335, cleaned 335 for 2, and front squatted 360 for 2. I was also the lightest I've been in months, 226. That was most likely because of the water though. Okay I'm done, just wanted to get that out.

hmmm...doesn't sound like something that someone who went through the proper boot camp would say :EL:

Oh okay, I thought you were in the army. They give us crap because our basic/boot is shorter, well it used to be now it's the same. I don't have any problems with the army dudes, I see them every day coming from and going to the desert. I just try to be nice to all of them because I know their situation is much worse.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I go to this board and the gym everyday to get away from all the whining.

What the hell man? Other people get to boo hoo every once in a while, but I don't? I suppose if I had said "oh that idiot over there is curling in the squat rack that makes me so mad" that would have been okay right? Dude I was just sharing experiences with the other people on the board. If you don't like it, don't read it. It's that simple.

The comment made more sense when I had Billy's quote above it. What I should have said is that you don't have it that rough.

I know that. I was saying it sucked because I was doing this by myself and could have done it a lot faster had I had some help instead of people being inside playing games. Look, I know as a firefighter you have been in much hotter conditions, but that's why you get paid. I get paid for what I know more than getting paid for what I do. I have a very tough job, one of the toughest to promote in, but when I've got to work a major write up by myself, on a broke dick aircraft to begin with, I've got the right to be pissed about it. I know you weren't attacking my, but think if the tables were turned and you had told us of a situation you had to deal with. People all over would tell you how good of a job you've done. In my job, we fix jets and then get yelled at afterwards by aircrew because it wasn't to their liking. I'm in a thankless job and I wanted to vent a little so I did.

I was talking about me at all. We have it good here in Iraq. Best lifestyles on base, not including EOD. I was talking about the combat arms guys, infantry, special forces and so on. Those guys have a crappy job that goes without praise or recognition.
I'm glad you understand that I was/am not attacking you.

I know the army guys have it bad. The jet I was fixing had a bunch on there. They are doing a great job though. Think about it, they're out there killing guys who's sole purpose in life is to kill themselves and our men get there first! We are hauling ass over there.
