I know this may seem like a really basic question, but I haven't seen it addressed anywhere, and am wanting to purchase a lifting belt relativley soon so that I can get used to using it on my heaviest lifts before contest time. Any tips for choosing a belt? Or are they all relatively equal?

I have an Inzer power belt with a lever and two prong. Best belts ever for power lifts.

I also have an Inzer two prong belt and I just have to say that I still need help getting it all the way on sometimes because it's so damn thick!

I can't imagine how funny it must be to see me at the gym getting someone to help me on with my belt... I really need to work on that.

The Valeo II Competition Powerlifting belt is by far the best belt I've ever used. It's solid, comfortable and reasonably priced as well.

IMO, anything leather sucks by comparison.

funny you said that because i just got a new 1 prong and it's much thicker than my old one (even though i've always ordered the 13mm thickness ) ...i can't get it nearly as tight. i'm guessing it will break in over time.

I have a 10mm Inzer Forever lever belt. I used alot of cheap belts ovewr the years and din't realize what I was missing. Go with the Inzer lever belts. lock em down, do your set, release 'em. A lot easier than a regular prong belt.

thanks for the input everyone! Looks like I'm gonna have to dish out a decent amount for a belt i see.....but hey, if it'll last me for a damn long time, it'll be worth it.

I have the same Valeo II belt Ryan Rhodes mentioned, and I love it. I ordered it online for under $30, so it was a great value for the money.

Here's the site where I got it: http://www.vitamaker.com/valeo-comp-belt.html

I have the same Valeo II belt as Corey and Ryan. I like it, it fits nicely over my Rheband back support and I can get it as tight as I want it. But I have never tried a lever belt so I can't compare for you. I also got mine for under $30.

I'm considering buying that new Inzer PR belt. Anyone know how good this is or how bad?

I'm looking into the inzer economy belt just to have a nice one to use mainly in comps on the log. I am also considering using one a bit more in training.

My question (not to hijack  ) is in the way of sizing. I rock a size 36 waist and the actual inch measurement is like 34 or 35 (been a while)...should I go with the Large (34-38) or the XL (38-42)?
I don't plan on getting huge (or fat) but I certainly will be larger over the next few years...

Thanks for the input and thoughts all... :)

Go with an Inzer belt. I used a lot of cheap belts and would never go back. Its a 1 time purchase you'll enjoy for years, so cost shouldn't be an issue. I personally like the lever belts. I bought the 10 mm belt. Since I only wear it at comps, it is more than heavy enough. But the 13mm's are great belts too. Its just a preference.
