I have heard, with no definite answer, that you can train your CNS to handle more. I normally like to keep my workouts infrequent, short, and very hard but I'm afraid that I will crap out if I enter a strongman competition after training like this.

Chris,

I think you will be ok at a certain level doing what you are now. Naturally, if you progress and compete at a higher level, your body will have to adapt. (Not saying that I compete at that level, I am a beginner).

Remember: most of the time, you will only go full throttle for a max of ninety seconds, then get a pretty nice break. Now, 90 seconds can be a long time, no doubt, but I think if you concentrate on getting stronger in the basic lifts, and getting more proficient in the events then the stress your cns will be able to take will go up also. Just my amateur two cents.

Also: alot of guys will run through a medley after their event training (or during if they are training for one) which will increase your work capacity too.

I currently do sprint/jog cycles for condtioning. The thought is that if I can go full bore for 60 seconds or beyond than I am pretty well prepared for the butt kicking a competition can bring, maybe I am wrong. But as I gather from your answer, I don't need the marathon lifting sessions in the gym?

If you can sprint for 60 seconds, I think you are in GREAT shape for a contest.

Like I said, I am a beginner so........

I think most guys don't have the time or energy for marathon gym sessions. Then again, the Skwim crew trains harder/longer/more frequently than most and they have great success so.....

Hopefully someone who actually knows what they are talking about will post up :LOL:

p.s. besides sprint cycles: many guys will do a ligher/medium tire for time for conditioning, pull sleds etc. just to mix it up.
