You usually see people using 5/8" chains, mostly for squats. As for the weight of the chains, It can be as much or as little as you want. Just go to the hardware store, buy some chain and weight it!

big chains are really expensive. i got 12' of 5/8" chain for 10 bucks at a farm auction. those are great places to pick stuff up cheap if you are creative.

You need 5/8" chain in 5ft lengths. Use a 3/8" chain to loop over the bar and feed the larger chain thru that. Some chain should always be on the floor at the top of the movement.

Thanks for the size and the info, do any of you use them on bench, shoulder press, or any other lifts.

I think you can use them on just about anything. Bench, squat, dead, press, whatever. I haven't tried chains, but I've always heard bands are more versatile and do basically the same thing.

Bands give alot different feel than chains do. Chains are more of a live feeling, bands have more of a grounding effect. Mix up your training with both. Another note on bands. They can beat the hell out of your shoulders and hips if you over use them.
