Scott Tully (KS State Chairman) and myself will be promoting the Gus Lohman Memorial Challenge II in Cameron, MO (about 45 min north of KC) on July 16, 2005. ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO CAMP QUALITY (a camp for children with terminal cancer).
Events (subject to change) are: keg press medley, stones, keg load, flip and carry, and Silver dollar DL. It will probably be a gold level show. I will be sending in my sanctioning in the next couple days. Ironthredz and BSOlympic gym have already signed on as sponsers. We had a great time last year, and plan on making this year's show even better. Hope to see you there!

Entry is now up! Start getting them in! We will go in order of entries recieved, ie first entry in will be last to go in your weight class. This can be an advantage, that way you know what you need to beat. So get them in ASAP. I recieved a nice package of wrist straps and gift certificates from Alan at APT wrist straps. We have some cool stuff from House of Pain as well, and a gallon of egg white product per winner from Egg Whites International. You should get a great contest and some cool stuff for your entry.

The contest is less than a month away, so if any of you are thinking of competing, get those entries in. We have cool t-shirts for all the competitors, cool awards, lots of giveaways, a great chance to qualify for NAS Nationals, AND we feed you afterwords. Should be lots of fun.

Hey guys,

Even if you still are not sure about doing this event, just register! If you can go, great (you are already registered and ready to go); if you can't go, the money is still going to a great cause!

The Gus Lohman Memorial Challenge II was big improvement over last years contest. We had 20 quality competitors and some very competitive classes. A few errors on the promoters part, but I try to learn from my mistakes and will do my best to make next years even better. We did have one MAS record broken today (pending Willie’s approval) with Dean Nascimben’s 1010# 18” deadlift. We raised a substantial amount more money for Camp quality this year. A big thanks to all of our sponsors, to Andrew Davis, Demetrius Davis and Nathaniel (don’t know the last name) for loading and unloading, to all of my family and the Davis family for timing, getting sponsors, helping load up the truck, setting up the meal, doing concessions, etc. Thank you Darren Barnhart for bringing out equipment, setting up, breaking down etc. Thank you to Karla Barnhart and Julie Mosher for helping set up, recording, and doing scores, etc. A huge thanks to Scott Tully, for this contest would not have happened without him. The list of things he has done for me are too long to last, but he did talk me into doing the show again this year. It has been kind of an up and down year and I was not planning on doing it. However as it is for a great cause and in the memory of such a great person, I am glad he did talk me into it. I also want to thank the competitors. Without you, there would be no show. The quality was great, I think my grandpa would have been impressed (I do think he would have gone for 1020 on that DL though J).

I had a great time at the Gus - Eric Todd did an incredible job and is truly a good guy for putting on an event like this for those kids!!

It was great meeting a lot of the guys from the board - Scott Tully is a helluva nice guy. Mike Medley and Conan Wass (and the guys from Southside gym) are all some good guys to compete with - very positive and encouraging!

If I had to get second, I'm glad it was to my training partner. We did pretty well as a training group - DJ got 1st in Masters, Eric and I got 1st and 2nd in 300+, and Eric got overall! Damn good day for Maverick training crew!!

Thanks for the support Eric and DJ!

Shawn, definitely had a good time competing with you and Eric along with everyone else. All those KS & MO boys always put on great shows. ET's was a great one again this year and yes, for a very good cause. It has definitely helped me training with you and Eric, hope we can keep it up through winter, going to focus more on strongman this winter than powerlifting. Thanks to Eric & you for all the help.
