alright here goes...a couple of weeks ago i was having what felt like sciatic nerve pain. id feel it every time that i would put my weight on my left leg and lean over...to pick something up for example. so about a week ago it went away. i did some real light snatches yesterday and it was fine. then i did one set of really light cleans and i felt it again so i stopped. for the rest of the day it hurt. and today its still pretty painful. its only on the left lower part of my back. its kind of a sharp/tight feeling. what do you guys think? i know its kinda hard to diagnose from just my description but any thoughts or input would help.

Maybe you should warm-up. And stretch. And do things to prevent it from happening. Or just keep making fun of me for doing that. :D

If it's the sciatic, it will usually shoot down a tingling sensation through the glute and into the upper hamstring.

I think you should stop lifting such heavy stuff. You're gonna hurt yourself.

FInd tourself a good amazon woman to give ya a massage, and Stretch more. Your calves are way to tight, And i think your hamstrings are too. Tight muscles can affect ALOT of other muscles!

Sounds like your body is trying to tell you something. I would listen and take a week off. Make sure you stretch really well and warm up really well.

Sounds like a pinched nerve. Massage and rest.

Yep, Scott is probably right. I had a similar issue. Lots and lots of stretching solved it for me.

I even stretch Dan and Harrison every chance I get.

Clay is right, does sound like a pinched nerve.

Could be something out of line. Might want to see a Chiropractor before it gets worse?

it is probably your left sacroiliac joint. Since you said you felt it when you put weight on that leg and when you bent over. Chiropractic and/ or physical therapy would help. Learning how to correct the SI joint yourself would be the best thing since it can happen very easily.

your SI joint is where your iliac crest (bone you can feel at the top of your hip) and sacrum (very bottom of your spine) come together. this joint has very little movement but can be very painful when sprained or when out of alignment. It can cause a reflex muscle spasm that makes people think they "pulled a muscle" but it is a muscle spasm in response to the problem

Alieve and ice first

SI joints are very vulnerable when bending forward and twisting. Make sure you are very careful with form.
Wear a belt, it can help

straight leg deadlifts can be a very bad exercise for some one who has a SI joint problem. As can stone lifting with straight legs.

I would not say it is a pinched nerve but that is my opinion

One of my rugby players had the same problem and we found that his glute medius was very weak and that was letting the hip travel wrong causing the pain. One way to see if you are having the same problem is lay on your back with your knees at a 45% and have somebody put their forearm between your legs with elbow on inner knee and same with hand and then squeeze thighs and see if your hip pops. if your hip pops you will feel a relief of pain and then you will know you need to strengthen the glute or get it to fire again

that is a way to self manipulate your pubic symphysis using your hip adductors. This does not necessarily mean you need to strengthen your glute medius. Most people should feel a pop doing this.

At the same time, most people would benefit from strengthening their glute medius. Theoretically it can assist in stabilizing your core and SI region. Unfortunately, it is difficult to strengthen or at least wouldn't be fun for most strongmen to train.

I still say it is your SI joint. A chiropractor or physical therapist would help the best. Finding a good chiropractor would not be a bad idea for most people to see periodically

thanks for the advice guys. so as for training strengthening the glute medius, what exercises would help? i already do nGHR's and romanian deads. step-ups maybe?
