Finally got my C.O.C. #1 & 2 in the mail today. :D I was able to close the #1 with my right hand right out of the package and I almost got it with my left. Plan to get #3 by the time I'm 18. 3 years should do it, I think. :EL:

Anyways, what would you recommend for increasing my crushing strength? Times holds? High Reps? Low Reps? etc.

Thank You.

Yep. You will get it no problem. Good luck.

I would suggest you hit LOADS of HEAVY negatives and holds with the #2 after a nice warm up of a click with the #1. After that go for max reps on the #1.

Assistance work such as pinch and thick bar is better off being done after grippers if closing the #3 is your main goal. Work on timed pinch holds, pinch lifts for max, etc...

Let me know how you progress.

Man i need to get some of these captains crushers..... One of my main weaknesses are my grip.... Especially in my right hand (im a righty) i broke both bones in my right forearm about 5 years ago and my right thumb especially will give way before anything else.... WHat do you guys think?

SHould i just go and buy a #1 AND GET TO WORK, OR SHOULD I RISK IT AND BUY A NUMBER 2, IM GOING TO BUY ONE AT A TIME, WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULD DO?

If you mean you have a bad grip because you cant close grippers then get the #1 (for reps) and #2 (for neg holds). If you have bad grip as in cant walk with farmers. Then dont bother with the grippers. Most people I have talked to say there is no coorelation between closing grippers and supportive grip strength.

Oh, ok,

I was very curious about that because without straps involved my grip isnt where i would like it to be.... With deadlifts, farmers etc......

QUick question? wouldnt holds for time with the grippers help?

i would get the grippers. IF you are relying on straps, which isn't the best of ideas as it will only worsen the problem, your grip could use some work. Grippers will do this fine.

if it direct improvement on the farmers/deadlifts you are looking for get into exercises like thickbar lifts and static holds as it is the supporting grip you will need to work. Don't neglect pinching either.

hope this helps bro!

Agree.

Gripers like COC only work crushing strength.

Rolling thunder and thick bar lifts will improve grip. far more than grippers.

Not saying don't do them, but make sure you do other grip exercise as a priority.

this is the 'plan' for the gripper part of my next grip session:

right - 20 rep warm up on trainer
left - hg400 single
right - hg500 attempt
left - hg400 negative
right - hg500 negative
left - #2 reps
right - hg400 reps
left - #2 reps
right - hg300 reps

ill always do either no set or small set closes

Thats really more of my goal, but I said 18 because I know for sure that I'll have it by then.

Thanks for that. I really do need to work on my pinch grip. Everything besides that is relatively good for me. If I get the #3 anytime soon, believe me, you'll all know. lol :)

jay lyttle checking in #7 on the #3 c.o.c. list. i did 6-8 sets low reps with the #2 one day a week and 3 sets of high reps [20\25 reps] or to failure one time a week.
once or twice a month i would hit the #3's for partial reps [low 3-5 reps] just to get the feel of the gripper and to see where my progress was.
within 4-5 months i closed the #3 and to close it on a regular basis and can still close them today even though my grip workouts are not as religous as they once were.!!!!!

Thats awsome!! Thank you for the tips. Whats your opinion on the new certification rules? Did you ever try to get #4 or were you happy getting 3?

i am a highland game athlete and dont do much grip work in season.
but i have set a goal to get back to work on them and give the #4 a go hopefully sometime in 2007. i do own one and can move it about a quarter of an inch so i do believe that i have a chance to give it a good ride we'll see.
good luck with your goals one thing i have noticed with grip work is you must be consistent and not lag on your grip days, but rest in between those days is also important.
i believe john brookfield does other grip work he calls it active rest.
find what works best for you again good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
