What is a good all around shoe for Strongman? Ive heard Otomix are pretty good, but the necessary kinds are close to 100 bucks or more. Then ive heard boots etc etc I use Chuck Taylors for just about everything, but they are way too flimsy in the ankle support department. Any oppinions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

IMO, there is no one shoe that will work for all the events. If I had to have only one shoe I guess I would get a pair of basketball shoes.

I have about 6 pairs of different shoes that I wear for different events, yea, I'm a gear whore.

I actually like addidas or new balance running shoes as an all around good shoe. I'm on my second pair of addidas and have gone through 2 pairs of new balance over the past few years. Its essential that they have a solid sole devoid of any air pockets or stuipid springy things, just a good ol rubber sole. The last pair I picked up at Cosco for $34. They are great for most events especially one's requiring foot movement. I find that I need some cushion for the majority of events. I have very flat feet and have torn a tendon in my left foor as well as suffering from tendonitis in my achelies tendon on the same foot. A hard sole shoe kills my foot and ankle. This is the reason I choose these type of shoes. I also have a pair of wrestling sneakers I use for deadlift and squat events and a pair of purpose rock climbing shoes. BUt for a shoe I use 90% of the time I find the solid sole running shoes work great for me.

I'd be interested to here more guys comment on what types of shoes they feel are best for what events. Or what shoes to NOT wear.

Don't wear high heels. As Brandon will freely tell you, they are a bitch to train in.

Derek,
I also have flat feet which gave me lots of foot pain, back pain, etc. Go to your doc and tell him/her you want custom orthotic insoles. They'll take a plaster mould of your feet and use that to make your insoles. Trust me, you'll never go without them again. They've made a world of difference for me. Your health insurance should cover it. I only ended up paying $20 for mine, after the insurance.
