Congrats to Phil -- and to Don, for making it to the podium!

This looks like one of the closest battles for first place in years. Can't wait to watch it!

I am glad I taped the 01 WSM qualifer with Phil in it, where he makes his promise to be WSM and bring it back to America. I won't make any promises, but I think I'll probably cry.

I can't wait to see this competition. This had to be one of the closest WSM's since MVM and Kiri back in the day.

There has been much talk about how to get strongman mainstream in the USA. I think this will do a huge job bringing coverage to the sport for sure.

Congrats to Phil!

I met him in Columbus, OH in 2004. Nice guy, huge hands. I also remember when he was holding the pillars and making his speech, telling the crowd and cameras that he WILL bring the title home to the USA. I think I still have that on tape. :mag:

Awesome to see Pope at 3rd. Competed against him in 05' at the Saxonburg Strength Fest, again, nice guy. He stood in the pouring rain with me for about 15 minutes and talked deadlifting.

Looks like American strongman is on the rise. I cant wait to see Ostlund and Steve MacDonald in top form as well. Should be good! :F:

Phil's speech during the Hercules hold of 2001 would make a great intro for the ESPN airing of this years contest :IMHO:

Congratulations to Phil!

I remember when he finished 4th in 1998 and over the next few years thinking that he might be the next American to win the World's Strongest Man. Then he kind of faded and blended in with several other top American strongmen. It's great to see that he re-focused himself and finally did it. I also want to congratulate Don Pope on an awesome third place. He is a very down to earth nice guy with amazing abilities.

The drought is over! Congrats to Phil!

This makes one wonder, what if more IFSA athletes make the switch over? Will they be as competitive?

That is so great! Condrats Phil! We need to get him on the forum when he's back from China. It would be really cool to talk to him about his win.

YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS! I freakin out. I just woke up, went right to my computer, and I have this awesome post to read. Congradulations Phil and Don for pushing themselves to be the best they could be because it paid off. Congradulations to all the other USA athletes as well for pushing themselves as well to compete in this competition. Because of all you guys, America has a very solid base for a long time to come. So hopefully this is just the beginning of era of Americans(this includes Canada to me) bringing the title back home.

I certainly think they will ... Pfister and Felix definately proved that (can't really judge by Magnus, he's been battling injuries all year).

Koklayev, Muramets, Vasyl and Savickas would definately contend for the title. More than a dozen other guys would be legimiate threats to make the finals ... including a few Americans (Ortmayer, Hatfield, Andersen etc.)

Congrats to everyone competing. But especially to Phil for taking home the title. Awesome job! :EP:

It'll be on five, and they're showing it on 6 consecutive days (5 heats and one final) starting on Januray 1st, 45 min programs for the heats, 1 hour for the final. Same as the 2005 competition.

Today is a good day! Congrats to all the competitors that participated, but especially to our American brothers Don and Phil, hopefully this will help propel our sport even further. I can't wait to watch this one...

I also think it would be great to get both those guys on the forum.

I woke up, first thing I did was check my computer and Pfister wins. If that isn't awesome, I don't know what is. The man is not only a great strongman, but a great man as well.

Also, think about this, it's a little thing Brandon Campbell brought up...since Phil does have kids(right?), how awesome is this for them. They will always win the "My dad can beat up your dad" arguments!

I'm pretty sure other kids are already aware of this. The man is 6'6 and 350 lbs. with enormous hands.

I'm really happy Phil won this, i'm more of a Mariusz fan but I really wanted someone from the North American Continent to win, whether if be Canada or USA, it needed to be here, this might improve the sport significantly for us all. Way back when they announced Phil would be at the WSM this year I knew he could give Mariusz a rough ride.

This win, coupled by the predictions on here, and great editorial in June 06 issue of Milo really shows how much faith Phil fans had in him this year.

I haven't been able to follow strongman enough to say that I was picking him, in fact I was looking for a Jesse/Marius shootout again this year but my ignorant a$$ didn't even know that Jesse had a hurt hammy.

I hate that Jesse didn't qualify but he's got alot of years ahead of him to dominate WSM but it is dang nice to see an American at the top of the pile.
