Scott mendleson (sp?) did 713lbs raw.

And that record could very well be reset by Nick Winters, who will attempt to do just that in November.

Fpr some reason i was thinking that it was alot more than that, like in the 800's but i probaly just confused it with the shirted world record...
I was ready an article n Kaz and it sai that he had once set the reocrd at 661lbs, and it made me curious to know

Kaz did set that record and like Eric said Nick Winters seems to be right on track to break that record as he reported on this site that he had done 715 for almost a double in training, but that he had at least gotten the single.

Kaz did set that record
Kaz benched 661 in the early 80s. Jim Williams (I think that is his name) did 675 in the 70s.

If I remember correctly, a lot of people questioned the legitimacy of Jim Williams' lift in terms of it being raw. I think people considered it somewhat equipped because his elbows were wrapped. I may be thinking of someone else, though.
I remember reading that Mendelson hit 755 in the gym. It would be cool if Nick Winters could give him a run for his money. It may spark raw lifting again.

James Henderson did 711 in 96. Mendy broke that with his 713.

James Henderson was a badass. It's a shame that he stopped competing.
This video of him is really cool. The IPF competitions before gear really got crazy. Lots of Europeans in what appear to be spiffed up Under Armour shirts, and big James Henderson smoking high 6's in the bench.

Thanks for posting that, I enjoyed it. It had Yngve Gustafsson(sp?) from sweden who was also in WSM 1984.

I was not saying that Williams has the record, just that he had done more than Kaz at that time. I don't know about the controversy with his elbows being wrapped. I just saw it listed in PLUSA a couple of years ago in a list of the all-time highest benches.
That video is the first time I have ever seen Henderson, that guy is HUGE. Pretty cool to see him win easy without a shirt.

The freakish part about Henderson is he does it competely raw. Elbows flared, no belt or even wrist wraps. HIs 711 he did with a watch on. The man is/was a beast. I think he lifts with the Power Team, that Christian strongman group.

Nick is definitely the man to keep an eye on now.I believe very strongly that he will break the record raw bench, and he still has a long way to go before hes in his prime.

I understand Matt. I wasn't even sure if the whole elbow wrapping thing was in fact Jim Williams. I just remember hearing about that and I believe it was him. I wasn't trying to get pissy, I just didn't know if it was him.
On that note, here is another video of James Henderson doing a 700 raw bench.
