Anyone here ever have any ACL or Meniscus surgery?

From my symptoms, I'm pretty sure I've tore up my knee and I'm going to my family doctor tomorrow to get a referral to a sports medicing specialist hopefully. MRI's are a 12 month wait here, not sure what other options would be. Exploratory surgery? Ignore it and keep training?

Anyone have any experience??

I would wait and see the doctor before making any decisions. It wouldnt be right if somebody on here told you to keep training without you knowing how bad your knee is.

I totally agree, I have cut out lower body training for now until something comes of the visit or visits to the doctor.

Anyone have any experience with this type of injury? What was the recovery like if you had surgery? If you didn't have surgery, what is your knee like now?

:)

I work with alot of athletes that have had ACL tears and the recovery time will depend on alot of factors but the biggest being if it is completely torn and they have to do surgery. If they do surgery depending on how much time you have for rehab you will be looking at a year. The rehab is very tuff coming back from the surgery but if you do it properly and try not to come back to soon you will be fine.

Saw the doc... was told that I can maintain my upper body workouts, but my lower body workouts should focus on stretching, LIGHT exercises and try to stay away from any twisting or pivoting motion for now so that my knee will remain as stable as possible. Going to see the sports med physician in 2 weeks (that was the earliest I could get in for an assessment). Hopefully he can help me out, and we'll go from there. :)
