You will have to have surgery depending on the degree of the tear. If you do have surgery and you listen to pysical therapist and try not to push it to fast you could be back to playing sometime next year. With our athletes they do their rehab and then we slowly start working on getting back muscle size and strength and do alot of pool work.

Thanks david!! I heard about doing pool work but i was skeptical now hearing from you being a physio(spelling) id try it. its gonna suck having my right leg be a whole ton bigger than my left.

so you guesstamate about a year for total healing?

I would say a year but if you get hooked up with a good physical therapist and find a strength coach to give you a good program to do to get your strength back you could come back alil sooner just dont try to push it to soon.

My legs are going to have to suffer for a little while i guess im going to have to work on my shoulders and chest *sighs*

My football Coach is a strength coach and we have our own trainer vince. i think they will help me out. well im pretty sure they will lol.

a year is a long time but its worth it for my future!

I have worked with alot of acl injuries but one thing younger athletes need to do alot more is work their hamstrings, this leg curl every now and then isnt going to cut it. Just keep your goals and just take it one day at a time and you will be fine.

David is right,

remeber though, the hamstring is a two joint muscle, so be sure to work it at the hip as well. Glutes are importnant (especially the glute medius) to prevent internal rotation of the femur which will put a valgus strain (think knock-kneed) on the knee as well. So, be sure to work on getting good balance in your lower body and build stability around that knee joint.

Good news:

My MCL has healed 35% faster than my doctor and surgeon expected. ihave about 1-2 more weeks of crutches. then another 2-4 months of recovery tell im back in the game fully. hopefully my squat and my other lifts haven't gone down. eek!!

Listen man, I tore my ACL/MCL back in 2004 against the Miami Hurricanes. They waited 3 weeks to do my surgery to let the swelling go down. I was running gassers at 10 weeks post op and back to full strength in the weightroom by month 4 and finally cleared for full action at month 5. ACL's aren't the scary injury they used to be. It's been 2 years since my reconstruction and I can tell you my knee feels fantastic.

Tore ACL/MCL wakeboarding, had surgery to repair, followed PT regimen to the letter and was back in just under 6 mos. This injury can be, for some, just as damaging psychologically as it is physically. Best interest for all is to keep your mind in the game (this is true for 99% of life if youre a bodybuilder). And LISTEN to your physical therapist!

Im glad to hear that you are doing much better!
