I'd recommend some low water bridges or a fishing area near a dam where the water gets down a ways when the gates are shut off.

Landscaping supply companies usually have them. Also if you have anywhere that speciallizes in sea walls and stuff like that they'll also have them. That way you can pick and choose in the dry. They're usually dirt cheap too.

All bashing aside, tempting as it might be, are there farms in your area? Farmers usually have piles of field stones, some of which are quite large. Might not be a river stone, but does it really mater where it came from? Plus, a stone on a pile is much easier to look at and give a few test lifts than is one half buried in silt, not to mention getting the river stone to your vehicle.

I got a couple from a place that speciallizes in building sea walls and armoring banks and stuff. One's about 250 lbs and the other is well over 300. I paid less that $5 each for them. Probably closer to $5 combined.
