I cannot express how happy I am that we got our hour back last night. Ever since they took it away 5 months ago (I think 5), I have been pissed off and resentful. Now, armed with one free hour, I am slightly less pissed off and resentful. Slightly. I felt the effects of losing my hour the WHOLE time. Laying in bed many mornings 5 minutes before the alarm, I would think, "Hell, if they hadn't taken my hour away, I COULD LAY IN BED FOR ANOTHER HOUR BEFORE DRAGGING MY ASS TO WORK." I think there should be a petition to ban daylight savings time. Arizona did it and they are SMART. They aren't the only state that has waken up and realized how much daylight savings time screws everything and everybody up. Why do we put up with shit like this? BAN DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME. Good, you gave us our hour back last night. Now LEAVE US ALONE AND STOP SCREWING WITH US, OR I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS, FARMER JOHN.

I couldn't disagree more. I want the hour in the evening year round. I'm at work when the sun comes up regardless, and like having the extra daylight after I get home.
Just think, next year we get an extra week of DST. The change won't be made until early in Nov.

What do you mean an extra week of DST? Tell me more.
Well, no offense, but I don't give 2 craps about whether it's light or dark when I get off work, because I stay inside and eat and rest and it doesn't matter what color it happens to be outside.

Well, I suppose the more ASS one has to drag to work ... the bigger a drag this would actually be.
:T:
Personally, I love DST, I hate having sunset at 5pm (or earlier). I don't actually mind getting up in the morning when it's dark. The worst was when I taught classes at the University ... I can't describe how much it sucked to first START a 3 hour evening class when it's pitch dark! All my students were already falling asleep BEFORE I even opened my mouth! ;)
But to each their own, I suppose.

I'm totally with you Dan. I absolutely hate daylight savings. I have often considered moving to Arizona just to avoid DST.

Upsetting the circadian rythm of millions of people can't be good for the planet. I'm sure it's all about money.

in the name of money.
it was a suggestion as part of a satire peice submitted to the Journal of Paris by Benjamin Franklin. he noticed that shop keepers spent a large sum of money on lighting to stay open normal hours when it started to get dark sooner. so it it is not farmer john to blame, it's the French! :B:
it is curently used, and since the 70's energy crisis as a way to reduce energy consumption and reduce car accidents since people seem to be unable to drive in low light conditions :EP: .

Well, actually they are. Indiana switched to DST this year. I don't care for it, but they do keep the bars open for another our on both of the switching days. At least here in Indiana they do!

I think this is the real issue, but glad to hear your less pissed off.

I opened the gym today, so I had a few asshats out there yelling at me that I was late when I first got in there and trying to start a scene. Boy, did they feel like douchebags once they remembered :D

I'm easily confused on this subject since I have lived in Arizona all my life.

I feel the same way. It just is so stupid and idiotic to me. You don't have an "extra hour!" The sun is up for the exact same amount of time! I had to switcch my clock back, and it hurt me deep down inside.

So let's all move to Arizona ... that way, we can avoid daylight savings time.
And ALL we have to put up with is miles and miles of scorching desert, 130 degree temperatures in the shade, and more poisonous spiders, scorpions and snakes than the remaining 49 States put together.
Sounds awesome ... sign me up! :T:

There is something much, MUCH worse than all those things that you can only find in Arizona....

Basically we get an extra week in the fall. As for taking offense, if anyone took you seriously we'd all be offended all of the time. Since I'm not a whiny little biyatch, I don't take offense to much.

"Date change in 2007
On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete."

Dan,
I can't believe you don't like daylight savings, what is wrong with an extra hour of sunlight for the kids to play in of an afternoon. You lose 1 hour at the start of DST, and get it back at the end, the 1 hour is easily compensated for after a few days to a week at most.

personally I'd rather they keep the daylight savings time around year round.
Why it needs to be light out at 6 am I have no idea. If you get out there that early then you shouldn't have problem doing it in the dark. That's wasted light to me. Now the sun goes down at 4 something, which is a bit depressing. Are more people awake and doing things at 6 am or at 4 pm? Seems logical to make the sunlight hours correlate with the hours most people are awake as much as possible. Yes it is about money to some extent. If people are awake for more hours when it is dark then more energy must be used.
