View Full Version : One song to pick....

Jared Enderton
10-30-2006, 06:13 PM
I know there has been a thread posted about all of your favorite music/songs to listen to while training... Now if you were going to do a max lift, and you only could choose ONE song to play.. what would it be?

Mine would have to be...

Static X- Push it

I didn't realize until after I did it how hard it is to only pick one song... but there is mine.

Just about anything by Clutch or Black Label Society.

But for one good pump up song I gotta go with No Shelter by Rage Against the Machine.

And I hate to say it but Limp Bizkit makes me want to dry heave.

They are Korn/Deftones lite.

Ridiculously loud bagpipes and drums.

If Slayer could figure out how to arrange "War Ensemble" with bagpipes, I'm 92% sure I could press Savickas and his WR log overhead at which point the shear awesomeness of the noise would cause them both to explode.

haha I bet there are more people than me out there who 'always wait for their favorite part of the song to come up before they max'..haha...... but... If I were to do the lift immediately, I would have a tie between Trivium-Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr, and Disturbed-Down With the Sickness... haha..... I know I said 2 more.. but as you get to thinking about it, it is so hard just to single one out.

Im not to sure about the best song to listen too during a one rep max but i have the worse song i have ever heard during a heavy lift...

The worse song award goes to (drum role please)

One day a few years ago i was going for a really heavy PR on the incline leg press and i got myself all amped up for it.... I sat down put my feet up, and was doing my wierd heavy breathing/grunting routine when all of a sudden i hear

"ITS RAINING MEN"

I just sat there in disbelief. Went out to my car, got my cd player and then went back to complete my workout

Joshua Davis
10-31-2006, 03:38 PM
"Opps I did it again" is pretty damn hot when I am pumping out a new max curl.

I always turn the music off when I am going for a heavy 1rm. I am too busy focusing on the lift to waste braincells on the ambiance.

Matt Schumann
10-31-2006, 04:00 PM
I dont know.... I still think its raining men has to be the worse.

I would rather listen to music on a big lift... Gets my nerve's to calm down a bit

Since I feel like such an outsider because I actually turn the stereo off before a big lift, I'll list what I listen to when training...

Atreyu, Faith No More, Bad Religion, Nodes Of Ranvier, Dropkick Murphys, Ballydowse

And music I listen to when chilling out:

Muddy Waters, Elmore James, BB King, Robert Johnson, The Chieftians, the soundtrack to "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", and sometimes lately, Gnarls Barkley.

I associate songs with lifts, so during high-rep squats, I might listen to "Lay Your Body Down" by Benjamin Gate, or "Midlife Crisis" by Faith No More. For overheads and pulls, I listen to harder music like Atreyu or Nodes. For Highland Games drills, I'll pop in Dropkick, Ballydowse, etc...

We never listen to music when event training at Tom's... unless his kids are playing piano (the piano is next to the garage we train in), in which case we are listening to hymnal-type music.

Judging by your size, anywhere you want to sign up. :B:

I can't help thinking of 2 things though

the scene in LETHAL WEAPON 2 where Danny Glover goes to the South African consulate and says he wants to emigrate there and the consule replies "But you're black"

like most of you/us in the iron game...music can make a workout a mind-numbing assault on the senses...i love linkin parq...disturbed -down w/the sickness has a kickin effect on the mind/body...however, Aaron Lewis (lead singer for Staind) was in Boise this past week and his voice basically rocks like no other...he said during the concert that he's actually free-styled and written songs like during a concert--w/o ever playing it before he just makes it up as he goes and it freakin rocks!!!!

My first choice is Hatebreed's I Will Be Heard. I like to get set up to the first couple of lines,
"Now is the time for me to rise to my feet, wipe your spit from my face, wipe these tears from my eyes". It's my way of gearing up and saying screw you to all the doubters, most of all my own self doubt, and explode when the song does right after that. Same way with a certain Korn song off their first album that's title is probably unfit to print on a family site, but its the point in the song where it says, "____ you, I'm fed up with you, I'm not as good as you, ____ you, I'm better then you." Again same thing, I want to silence the doubters, especially myself. Maybe I just need some confidence therapy. :)

I like any Metallica when I squat, Rage Against the Machine for bench or OH press, and Pantera for deadlifts. "Walk" would be my top pick but anything off Vulgar Display of Power, The Great Southern Trendkill (War Nerve, Drag The Waters), or Far Beyond Driven (5 Minutes Alone, I'm Broken) suits me.
