Hi all,
just registered in order to ask a question.
If it doesn't break any rules could someone please post a couple
of pictures of jesse's upper back tattoo (front and back).
I'm thinking about having something similar and looking for ideas,
i've searched the web and this site for the last three and a half hours
with no success.
Thanks in antiicipation,
Mark

This is the tat not long after he got it. It's a little grainy... they're flames and they go over the traps. Age 19?

On this note, what would y'all think of getting this tattooed on my upper shoulder:

just the P, though, not the whole thing

Or, for all my Christian brothers, what about some of these verses, placed over my heart or my clavicles or across my back...

But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
-Luke 12:48
(not necessarily the first sentence)

I can do everything through him who gives me strength.
-Phillipians 4:13

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 8:38-39

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
-Galations 2:20

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
-Psalm 23

I was always under the impression from the bible that the body was a temple and you shouldn't get a tattoo, that would make it unclean! ;)

Seriously I never liked any image enough to want it permanently placed on my body. The only tats I can somewhat understand are RIP's for a family member who passed.

Having a tattoo is conforming nowadays. Don't be a sheep Jett.

The most important thing about getting a tattoo, I think, is to make sure it is meaningful to you. If it just looks good/pretty, 10 years down the road, you probably won't like it. I've got 7 tattoos now and they are all a symbol of some life experience/challenge. They are for me and no one else and that is why I know when I'm 90 years old and hella wrinkley, it won't matter that my tattoos are wrinkley. Just knowing they are there is what matters to me.

Jett-

I almost got the 23 Psalm tattooed after a teammate commited suicide. At his funeral my coach read it and it had a completly new meaning to me. Whenever I read it I still get a little shaky about the whole thing. Anyway, my point was, at that point in my life I felt like those words being on my body would help me to always remember some things I shouldn't take for granted. I got talked out of it and I wish I'd done it.

If it's something meaningful to you, have it done.

I would not be doing it to be a sheep, these are seriously something I want to have with me all of my days. I would not doing it to conform, this is just one way I can glorify God. And the discussion of the body as a temple can be disputed, as what you are referring to is mostly under Mosaic law, something not all Christians or Jews prescribe to completely(such as the sacrifice of animals). However, I do not think a symbol like Psalm 23 would not be considered making the body unclean, as actually I am glorifying God with my body.

Exactly. I have a tattoo that has a particular meaning to me only. The your comment above is almost exactly the advise I gave to my son when he was thinking about his first tattoo. The worst thing I can think of is putting some trendy image, especially a commmercial trade mark, that will have really no special meaning throughout your life. Tattoos are like scars you need to earn them and they need to mean something.

I don't have time to find the exact phrasing right now. But in the same passage that says you should get tattooed it also states that you shouldn't shave your facial hair or wear clothes with more then 1 type of material (so if you wear cotton blends your screwed). So if your going to live by the no tattoo part then you probably need to let that facial hair grow out to. :)

1) You would have it with you all of your days...right in the bible. You don't need a tattoo to remember a scripture do you?

2) You wouldn't be doing it to conform, but nevertheless it IS conforming. I'll call you DJ Jett since a lot of rappers have scripture tatted.

3) The body as a temple I was joking. Hence the WINK.

4) There are plenty of ways you can glorify God other than getting a tattoo.

The biggest objection I have to you getting a tattoo, not that my opinion matters, is that no reason at all is causing this want. Nothing dramatic happened in your life to make you want to do it. Next thing you know you'll be getting a chinese symbol on your lower back!

Scott

p.s. If I went to church regularly, I would probably get a tattoo just to see how they would react. HA!

Those are some seriously B.A. tatt's! I'm not to hung up on the whole "meaningful" tattoo's. Just try to keep it on the not-so-trendy level and make sure it is a beautiful piece.

On another note. Who cares if your tattoos are gross and wrinkly when you are old. Everything about you will be wrinkly and gross when you are old. And when I say old I mean OLD like 48 or something. :B:

Speaking of trendy, remember the Loony Tunes fad of the early 90's? I bet a lot of people are regretting the tattoos they got then.

On the biblical subject of tattooing, the precise verse is in Leviticus, and says "Do not mark your bodies in remembrance of the dead", I am assuming this was because death is considered unclean by Levite standards. Some people have stretched this to mean that you can't get a tattoo, but I know a few religious Jews that have plenty of ink, just nothing related to death or a dead person.

On my forearm, I have Galatians 6:17 set into a banner carried by a dove above a cross... "Finally, let no man cause me harm, for on my body I bear the marks of Christ"

That's hilarious, I didn't see the banner but I heard about it!! Glad to see they're able to keep their sense of humor while over there.

BTW, to back up my earlier statement, the lady at Dunkin' Donuts this morning had a tattoo of the Tasmanian Devil on her inner forearm. I didn't feel it would be polite to ask her if she regretted it though.
