This is Fox News trying their best to stifle that "liberal mentality" by playing on America's apathy and ignorance for anything except the major sports and about foreign countries. Do yourself a huge favor and don't watch Fox News.

At least a Strongman contest got a mention....on the most popular news channel on TV. It's a start....baby steps. Heck the whole organizational structure and who is the strongest is hard to figure out for most people who have been following the sport for a while. Cut'em a break. Be good and send them feedback thanking them for the story. Who knows, maybe the other news orgs will do as they always do and try to copy Fox News. haha j/k

Right on point, at least they mentioned it and featured it on their website.

There you go - "World's Strongest Man" in Thailand.... Won by a French Bloke.
In fairness it looks like a decent amateur contest - calling it WSM is just wrong though.

I don't choose to watch any news program, not even local news. At home, I do not read the front page of the newspaper. I form my opinions based on my own experience and from conversations with others (whether I agree with them or not). I don't like being spoon-fed someone else's opinion on matters that really don't concern me. For things that do concern me, I actively research and persue those things, like this site. Just remember, everything you hear on TV, every news clip you see or movie you watch has been edited, even some "Live" broadcasts. You're only getting the information that someone wants you to get. I'm sorry to offend people when I say I think Fox News is the worst. Don't care what I think, just as I don't care what news programs think.

I disagree. The sport is misunderstood enough without the media screwing up the perceptions even more. If you're going to report on something, do your fact checking, and at least show that you care about the topic slightly. The attitude of "any publicity is good publicity" is the reason why so many people end up looking like asses in the media. I really hope strongman doesn't become the kind of sport that's filled with people that look to be merely begging for attention rather than improving themselves. /rant

Amen to that. All news has bias, and me, I just want a general idea of what's going on, not Bill Riley's crap, or Hardball, or even Good Morning, America.

Good point. I sent them an e-mail saying thanks anyways.
Thanks Colin Anderson for posting that Reuters story...I guess the title "World's Strongest Man" is only as safe as the copyright laws allow!! haha.
Anyone know anything about the American they showed participating. Douglas Taylor?
Also the Frenchman, Philippe Hortion? Also what organization was this contest held under?

I did this contest last year. It was sanctioned under United Strongman Series which is basically a sports production company out of Austria. They feature strongman, texas hold em, and some other stuff. http://www.stvmd.com/stvmd/index.php
USS and STVMD is now affiliated with IFSA so I really have no idea why those certain guys were selected. Last year it was set up through a qualification process. I think there were 4 or 5 different qualifiers with Bangkok being the final. I qualified in Canada along with Starov and Pekanov of Ukraine. Derek Boyer, Brian "Banana Hands" Hocker, Sabastian Wenta, Franky Beaneau, Victor Chenkov?, Milan Jovanovich, myself and some others made up the list last year.
Keep in mind that this contest is purely TV and very little strongman. Last year Bill Lyndon (AUS) had to rebuild most of the equipment before the contest because it was built so poorly. They paraded us around like cattle making us go here and go there and be in this parade and that parade and talk to this monkey and that camel and go to this alligator show play tug of war with an elephant and ride the elephant and pick up this small Thai girl and put her over yer head and pose for this picture and that picture and walk around the airport with yer shirt off the list goes on. No kidding. I got photographic evidence.
Anyway, overall it was a lot of fun. The accomodations were outstanding, they treated us like kings, and the rest of the guys were great. I was very happy to have the opportunity to go.
btw, one of the highlights of the trip was the fact that Franky B out of Canada, who speaks barely any english and no Thai, found a way to get himself shaved from head to toe at some salon. And I mean head to toe. He didn't have a single hair left on him.

He is OK. Pretty busy with the new baby, new house and having to back to work this week. He has a pretty good setup at his new place, power rack, tire, keg and stone he got from Gillinghams and Jackals gym. So and all in all he is good. Still a smart ass though but I think that is in his genes. Gets it from his mom of course not me. JK.

Stuff like this happens all the time. I write for my high school newspaper, and they recently screwed up an article I wrote featuring an interview with a football player based on the strength and conditoning program. Instead of putting the caption I requested, they put in "...sculpting a strong upper body." to a picture of him squatting 315. Naturally every jock in the school was talking trash.
Just goes to show, that usually the original content gets screwed up in the editing process.

I believe the USS has been completely dissolved, which makes this contest's origins even more mysterious. ;)
