Man, I am very happy with this cuz I don't flat bench anymore, but I do throw in some close grip work every other upper body workout. Typically my close grip was always about 60 pounds off my regular wide grip bench, if that is still true for me my raw bench is around 625....one of these weeks if I am feeling good I will go for it!!!!

That is great Steve! That 565 looked easy!!! A 625 raw bench is amazing - you really should try to see where you are at sometime soon and even do a bench press contest raw!

Geez; I didn't realize you had gotten so big. You make Mac look like a kid. Funny how you can end up lifting a ton on bench coming off a bench layoff, huh.

Hey Steve, this might sound dumb, but how many times do you think you can you bench 225?

I usually never bench, but recently came off a layoff also (for $hit$ and giggles) and came close to 225x60 using the same grip you did in the video (I can't bench too wide out because of a repaired shoulder). Last time I maxed (many moons ago), I was at 505x2.

That was awesome Steve that tri power has to help you lock-up big logs! All the "cut" muscle heads were looking at you with dropped jaws! Plus you had zero arche which makes it way more impressive. If you could learn a shirt you'd be looking at a nice shirted max. Ryan R. what happen to your shoulder bro?......

Thanks guys,

Ryan, my best 225 effort was 43 with a wide grip...when I weighed 285 back in 2000 I did a bodyweight for reps contest and managed 37

Now, five years and lots of size later, I'm sure you'd stomp most of my numbers. I only managed 225x51. I'm only 26; I've got time. I'll catch up... :)

I guess the fact that Steve is a 3 time WSM competitor should be proof enough that he will stomp a whole bunch of numbers. And I believe he is only 31 or 32.

He's wicked strong. I'm not sure where you're going with your post; I didn't insinuate anything to the contrary or that my numbers are even in the same ballpark as Steve, although that's possible. Some of the strongest men in history never competed, but since you brought it up the justification of WSM participation: Israel Sanguinetti competed twice in WSM and I (and many others on this board) would $hit all over his numbers (that isn't saying much). I wouldn't weigh anybody's mere participation in a contest- even WSM- when making an estimation of their strength. (IMO) Steve's legacy is what it is because he consistently dominates the field in competition, not because he went to worlds a few times.

What were Israel Sanguinetti's stats just for sh*ts and giggles?

This is where I am going with my post... Not incinuating you were being "contrary".
When I was with the Marines in Japan, I competed in Power-lifting with an american who lived in Japan... his name escapes me. Anyway I could beat his Squat and Bench, he went on to compete in WSM. HE was the only one willing to represent Japan at the time.
As far USA strength athletes if you want to compete at WSM... You are gonna be one very strong fellow.
I have been in and around Power-lifting for 20 years and there is a Huge differance between Gym numbers and Meet numbers.
And when it comes down to comparison, there are alot of very strong people walking around, but if they aren't willing to compete, they have nothing to compare.

AQmen brother jay.. or as my BC bud loving, chain smoking, lazy ass brother Mikey (think O.C.C) likes to say "unless you compete you are just an oversized freak with a lot of useless s**t in your yard"

Hey Steve, are all of your bench workouts singles or was it just for that workout?
