Ha folks has any one heard of DMSO or Dimothyl sulfoxide. I've been reading about this stuff and it sounds like it's a cure for every thing from spranges to burns. I'm not going to talk much about it. just go to www.dmso.org and read about it. I'm going to try it on my knees and shoulder. I'll give ya all the details about how it worked or didn't work.

Rod,

I am pretty sure dmso was the stuff the NFL guys used back in the 70's. I always thought it was some kind of horse pain killer. I will look at the site and check it out. For some reason I thought the NFL outlawed it????Not sure.

ya, this stuff goes as far back as 1965 i do believe, and yes you have to go to a vet to get. I don't think it was outlawed because it is still being used by some olyimpic competitors. I'm still researching it my self.

Its a very strong solvent in addition to its anti-inflamm properties so be careful with it. ZERO TOLERANCE RULE: DISCUSSION OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES.

I remember my dad using it all the time. He has competed in martial arts for almost 40 years and swore by the stuff. I know Kaz used the stuff too.

And the best part about it is you can smell like a garlic clove for days after.

DMSO is an actual trandermal, meaning it does get through the skin and into your blood, unlike Ben gay or the other topical remidies. Becarful with it as anything that is on your skin, hands or comes in contact with it is also going to get inside you.

I've read some accounts of this as well. I think it's a bi-product of paper mills or something.... I would assume a solvent that can be absorbed through the skin has the potential to take bacteria with it. Take heed all those who have nasty LANGUAGE EDIT Rehbands.

I could be wrong but about 5yrs ago some of those topical pro-hormones were popular and I think they were using something similar to DMSO as a carrier.

I say if your knees and shoulders hurt (join the crowd) just get some knee sleeves, muscle rub, lots of warm ups and lots of ice after training. Maybe some Motrin after heavy days; some TKE's and stability work for the knees and RC work for the shoulders. I'm pretty sure this option won’t cause cancer.

If you have a girlfriend and use this stuff she'll be gone in no time it makes your breath smell like your butt! If you do want to try it crush some aspirin and mix it with it for joint and muscle pain. Works great for that and posibly repelling vampires :EL:

I use it with aspercreme. I'll rub aspercreme into my shoulder, then when it is dry, I will go with a layer of dmso... let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then a contrast shower and ice for 20 after that.

I have also used some lidocaine that the doc perscribed for a sore throat, it is just lidocaine in gel form, and it seems to work extremely well with dmso for pain relief.

I tried crushing up some ibuprofen and mixing it with the dmso, but the buffering on the tablets just made this orange jelly that dripped everywhere and made a mess, so I just stick to the above solutions.

P.S. you can get DMSO at most farm supply stores. I have a TSC just down the street.

This stuff is not illegal, in fact there are olyimic athletes that use this stuff. there nothing illegal about it, you can buy it at any vet clinic or farm and ranch supply store.
it's just not been approved by the FDA for human use yet. FDA has given there permission to have dmso studied to be used on closed head injuries. I'm thinking about all of us that bust or buts day in and day out training and alot of over the counter pain relievers do not work, why not give this stuff a chance. if it was illegal i would not of mention this stuff or us it, i'm cop remember, I know whats illegal and whats not.

Methinks a mod edited out any references to illegal substances... and wasn't specifically talking about the DMSO.

DMSO is approved for human use. You can buy it with aloe vera on iherb.com. I was reading one of the links that you posted where it said that is has been approved. As a matter of fact I bought some.
