Was thinking about Svend and Phil going to the Arnold Classic Strongman(2002 version) just a week after doing the North East Strongman Showdown.

Stumbled upon this old video of Phil going 200 ft.,330lbs in 23 seconds.
330lbsfarmers200ft,23 seconds,PFISTER @ North east Strongman showdown (http://samson-power.com/2002_northeast_strongman.htm)

Current IFSA world record :
with 352lbs for 164ft , 43.6 seconds
with 275lbs for 246 ft ,47.6 seconds
Pfister's "run":
with 330lbs for 200ft ,23 seconds

With the WSM being televised this saturday..and with big Phil coming out as the new World's Strongest Man.I thought it was appropriate to put this link up to Phils video.
Pfister probably has sacrificed some speed for brute power these days...but that has got to be one of the best farmers "runs'ever. :mag:

Phil did the 40 ft ramp at the Arnold with the 815lb frame..a week later in 8.7 seconds.

Wow. He makes that judge look teeny.

Phil is amazing, but those times are misleading. I believe the IFSA records are not straight runs and have two turns; they also use the more difficult IFSA implements--I have not used them, but hear they are very difficult. Phil did the farmers in IFSA at least at one show and I think it was in 60 something secs with a drop? Just memory so can't be sure.

True.....no turns...good point...but I think it is more about the fact that Phil was at his peak-- for speed-- in those days......and that nobody was(is?)faster than he was--on the farmers walk--or---at least not as fast as Phil was on that particular day.

I actually don't think Phil is nearly as fast anymore.
He has definitely 'lost a step' or two on the farmers...which,in the big picture, doesn't matter....because now he's a much better all around strongman.

I don't know if the 'type' of implements would make much difference to phil...thick handled, knurled, smooth, unbalanced or whatever--- Phil always man handled the implements  .
As an example of his ability to adapt to implements --he had never touched the frame carry at the Arnold that year either..and beat everyone there handily....
If his IFSA times are slower...I believe it's because he just isn't that fast--on the farmers-as he once as.
I think it(the time @ the NE Showdown) was just the 'prime'of his farmers walk days. :D

It would be interesting to see what today's IFSA athletes could do--in a straight line-200ft---with 330lbs.
It is possible that they are just as fast...as phil was.

23 seconds-200 feet--with 330lbs?? ...that little referee/timer had to jog to keep up...and it looked like Phil could have just kept on going.
Averaging 5.75 seconds-- per 50 ft.

The turns are like night and day. Not to discredit Phils run on that day, but I honestly think that several of the top guys today would match that time or better it under similar conditions. I'd say that even Phil may better it now. Strongman has evolved a good amount in the last few years and Phil really stepped up his game. If he is slower it is by a neglibible amount. I can guarantee you that the old Pfister would not have done the IFSA course in anywhere near 23 secs--that is not humanly possible.

If you notice the the back ground of that video with Phil there was another guy not too far off him; while he was not that close to beating phil he was likely only a few seconds behind. Can't tell who it is, but the fact that two guys were blistering that course I think tells you that it was not comparable to the IFSA course. Even I have done a 310 farmers run for a straight 200 ft in 27 secs or so; and I know from experience that the top guys would dust me.

Sorry. My post came across wrong..didn't mean to imply that Phil would do an IFSA 'course'with turns....in 23 seconds.
Admittedly my post comes across that way.

Hopefully the IFSA will allow their guys to "open it up"on a straigtaway some day.
I think the Farmers should be done like a drag race...but with relatively heavy weights.
The turn(s)--from a fans perspective--are boring and slows the event down.
(probably done because of venue size or limitations)

Enjoyed getting perspective from another Pro Strongman.

Thanks Paul. I agree it would be cool to see the straight away in IFSA strongman. Although I personally think Pfister is most impressive with turns (at least compared to me)--he is able to man handle the implements so much that it is awesome watching him swing them around going all over the place and not take away his balance or grip. I have to be much more careful in a turn.
