I watch all of the wsm this weekend (as you guys have)...and noticed that big Dom looked bigger than ever. he looks more muscular than last year and still weighed in at 440.

i knew he didn't make the finals, but watching his prelims, it just looked like he didn't care about anything.

I think he could easily be WSM if he put in some effort.

I noticed the same thing. But that is why there are preliminaries. Filiou was being owned by guys half his sized and Dom really looked like we was just really sleepy or had a stomach ache the whole time. I think his 440lbs is also stopping him from being as quick as he needs to be to get a decent score at WSM. I am not saying that Dominic wasn't giving it his all but he just didn't appear to be having fun.
Also, I did notice a few other competitors who looked liked they had slowed down due to their new found size.

i don't think his weight slowed him down at all.

he just looked unmotivated...like he just didn't give a poop.

Didn't he take 3rd overall last year? I still think he has what it takes to be the best.

Big men and heat don't mix. Especially considering he's from Canada and probably isn't used to that extreme heat.

I agree, from what Jesse said, the heat was ridiculous in China during the prelims. Being 440+lbs and it being over 100+ degrees with 90%+ humidity is really a recipe for disaster for a guy that big. I'm surprised no one had any serious medical issues due to the heat. You see and hear about it all the time with offensive and defensive lineman during preseason in the NFL and those guys are 'only' 320+ lbs. I think if you put Dom in the IFSA Worlds in Iceland, it would have been a little different. But that's just my .02!!!!

In my humble opinion he looked like the big kid whose mom makes him play football, like he was only doing it because hes a big guy and expected to compete. I know it sounds like im talkin trash but im just making an observation. He has such awesome strength, but when i watch him, i get uncompfortable because he looks so glumb.

I agree - when I competed against him in the WSMC you can see on time theres no fire there!

He seems to be a shy guy who can't get himself modivated for anything. I feel bad cause I know he could do awsome with his natural gift. That man could do damage if he put his all into it. But then again it could just look like he isnt giving it his all but who knows whats going on inside of his head.

Exactly. I'm not sure you make 3rd place in 2005 WSM if you're not giving your all, regardless of natural strength, and in fact it could quite easily have been 2nd (no offense Jesse) if he hadn't done that ridiculous style of carry in the second to last event...

His form is certainly inconsistent, but I think it's a little insulting to a very strong guy to say it's because he's not trying hard enough.

You would be surprised as to how shy Dominic is - apparently big Dom hasnt watched himself coming 3rd at wsm 05 - he doesnt like watching himself! And Im not sure how true this is but I was told he has panic attacks aswell!

Wow, that sounds pretty rough.

If that is the case, I think he deserves further credit for continuing to perform at such a high level. Even if he is just very shy, it much be hard to go out in front of people over and over again if he's so shy.

Obviously no one knows what's really up with Dominic besides Dominic (and perhaps his close friends and loved ones).

What we DO know is that he has tremendous potential. When he's "on" he's competitive with the best in the world.

But when he's off ... well, he finishes DEAD LAST in many contests.

This type of variation is far beyond just "having a bad day" or "being a bit unmotivated".

It suggests something deeper and more profound is going on.

Whatever it is I hope he can work it out, and I wish him the best of luck in 2007.

You can tell thats theres somthing not right in there ive notice that he stoped events to pull his shirt down somtimes. I feel real bad for the guy if hes having emotional troubles and then having TV cameras shoved in his face.

hi everybody. first of all thanks for all the people who support me. thanks to the people who think i suck also.

I agree with the people saying that my heart wasen t in the competition last year.

let me tell you about how i was feeling during that time.

I was feeling really hot. sweating like a pig just walking in the hallway of the hotel.

I just finished a really tough contest just 1 week before going to china. the canada s strongest man. i thought that i would have won it. i gave my best but i finished second. Jessen Paulin won it. I was burned out.

third, i get some panick attacks. when the cameras in my face i feel really nervous.

the stones at the contest were not heavy. i tried them at least two time beforre the contest. i could not get a good pressing position. maybe i was not flexible enough.

the event s that i did good in just wasent good enough to get ahead in the points. like the barrel toss. i tought i did good but i was too slow.

i think i did a good farmers walk and carry and drag. that s about it. the points were pretty close also.

on the car deadlift my suit was too tight , i should have worn just the bottom without the straps. i could not breath right.

anyways there was alot of reasons i did not do good, but it think the biggest reason was the heat and the exhaustion from my last contest.

if anybody want more info send me a message. thanks again to the people who support me.

please don t be so fast to judge people by how they look on tv.

thanks

Dom,

you did just fine. coming out of a contest the week before and do another one in 100 plus heat must of sucked. Bottom line you did your best. oh when it comes to having a camera in your face, just think of it like some one is just taking a picture and smile pretty bro. :KD:

Honestly i apologize, based on what i saw on television i made certain assumptions about Dominics performance.... He is just so much bigger than everyone else its very easily for a person to wonder "why isnt this guy killing everyone?"

I do appreciate it alot for him to come on the forum and explain himself, its easy to understand what he goes through and i wish him the best of luck....

THe thought of someone not being comfortable around the camera's and having that affect their performance never really crossed my mind until he mentioned that. I can definitly see that affecting someone's performance and affecting someone's appearence.... WHich could probaly be misunderstood as not caring etc......

best of luck

Man I know how much heat affects me and I'm not even 200lbs. And most athletes know from experience how an elevation change can put you on the top of the world or make you feel like you've only got one lung.

You were the biggest guy in the comp coming from the coldest stomping grounds. That's gotta be tough.

And not being comfortable with cameras can't make it any better.

Just showing up and competing at a WSM takes a lot of heart man, let alone under the conditions you did.

I'm sure you'll have a better year next year.

A lesser athlete would have just given excuses and left it at that. I appreciate the fact that he took time out to express his thoughts on last year. A least Dominic spotted his errors and learned from them. Constantly developing as an athlete is what leads to the championship level.

Thanks Dominic:
Your Explaining what happened helps. I watched the competition with My son. I know that I would'nt have wanted to compete under those conditions. If you gave it your all your a winner in my book :marv:

I must say, after watching WSM 2006 finally, I can call myself a big Dom fan. That carry and drag was unreal, looked easy for you.

The man himself is here. Awesome. Just go's to show that it's prudent to not judge what someonelse (especially as unique as Big Dom's structure) is going through in situations such as these...Dominic, how big is your wrist anyway! Thanks for posting here and good luck in this season's endeavors sir-Shawn

It's Canadian money, it's useless to you. That money is coming my way even if I have to wrestle it away from Dominic. (after I gas him with chloroform then prod him with a stick to make sure he's out cold).

Hey Dominic,

Thanks for stopping by.

You are my favorite strength athelete...and I base that purely on your size and strength potential :)

When I first saw you compete (i forget which year), I couldn't believe what i was seeing. You made 300lb men look like children.

At China, your carry & drag was awesome...and even your barrel toss (though slow) was incredible. You tossed the barrels twice as high as needed :)

I wish you best of luck this year. :I:

Thanks for posting here Dominic, it's awesome to have another athlete of your level contributing here.

Funny how the tone of people's post change when the person they're talking about is present...
