One of the events at the South-West Florida Strongman Contest is an odd object carry. This is an event which the implement will not be trained by anyone (including myself) prior to the moment of competing. The implements will not be announced until the day of the contest (and will not be allowed to be trained either) until its the competitors turn.
So with that being said, I have several ideas for implements, I would like to hear from others what have they seen in the way of: Odd objects in a carry event. The one that comes mind is the Ding Carry in last years WSM . Any other odd objects come to mind?
Thanks

I had a fire hydrant carry at my contest in Sept. this year.
It is a pretty cool little implement and looks cool to the crowd as well.
Check with the department of sanitation/maintenance/water/fire/sewage/ect. in your local town. One of the following should be able to direct you to some old broken ones. Slip the attendant a $20 because i'm not sure if it is exactly legal to just give them away.
Are you not concerned with testing out the event before you put it in the contest?? If no one trains it who will u know if it is too light/too heavy?? It would suck if everything was too light and people just ran with the stuff; and vise versa if the weight was too heavy and no would could do anything with it.

Dane,
I appreciate the input, and your point is a valid one. I am actually having (2) implements weights. I assure everyone the implements will be heavy enough where nobody ig going to go running away with the implement.

I've always thought common house hold items would really be interesting and croud pleasing. A sofa or love seat, fridge, king size matress, entertainment center ect. Things ordenary people have moved before so they can appreciate the weight and awarkness of the object.

John Beatty had the "Turd Carry" once... I remember him talking about it on the anvil. It was a large solid rubber insert for a loader tire, oddly shaped like a cheesey poof... but since it was black, cylindrical, and curved, it was nicknamed the Turd.
Fire Hydrants, even with bottom pipes attached, aren't heavy enough to be challenging unless filled with shot... but they look impressive.
I always thought the Maltese Shields they used at WSM 99 was pretty impressive.

What do you think this is? Trading Spaces? :M:
By that same token, something very heavy, like an old fridge with handles bolted into the sides would be great.

Yea; most firehydrants are around the 100-200 pound range. We put lead tire weights in ours, and then capped it off with some concrete.
Some of the older fire hydrants weigh around about 265.

I just completed the "empty the entire house and move it next door medley" lastnight (for my own house this time), but I have helped so many friends and family move over the years ...Being the guy with the truck and all

i heard of one contest where they had to carry/drag...what ever they could do...with one of the stall mats like you use at the gym...4'x6'..they are heavy and so damn awkward..
another one would be a semi truck tire and wheel...those are heavy ...and no handle..persey..

Dave Ostlund did a meet last year where we carried a 55 gal drum with a weight in the bottom, but there is nothing better than a heavy loose sand bag.

I say a keg full of beer, and you can drink it along the way to lighten it if you wish.
