I'm thinking about getting back into Olympic weightlifting (possibly the 242lb's) and was hoping somebody could do a little research for me. What's the American record in the Clean and Jerk?

The USA Weightlifting web site says the 105kg C&J recorc is 220.0 kg.
The 105+ kg C&J record is at 237.5kg. set by Shane Hamman.

I think you'd do well......only thing is there is no 242's....you'd have to go 231+, which is really like the unlimited class..... and to be competitive in that class you'd have to weigh a whole heck of a lot more than 231, probably 100lbs more at least.....I forget what the next lowest class is under that, but I doubt you could have made that weight at birth, lol

Oh wow, for some reason I thought there was 242's...hmm...ok...231+ it is then.
So if Shane did 500+ what was the minimum to make the USA team?

seems like it'd be easier to lose 11lbs and be in the 231s, wouldn't it?

Go here for qualifying totals:

These are just totals to enter the competition in a given weight class. You have to start at the American Open or Nationals and work your way up from there.

What matters is your total (snatch + C&J). You'll probably need around an 890-900 pound total to make the team. Depends on how many olympic slots we get and how much our top guys improve over the next year. Plus you'd need to get signed up for testing at least 1 year before the first qualifying event. Might have already missed the deadline, not sure.

After watching your vids I'm sure you'd do fine in the 105+. I'm currently starting on training for oly contests and based on your vids and what i've seen from the FL record list you'd have no problem being competitive right away especially on the state level.....i've always felt guys in your situation (ex-athletes from the big 3) would do great in oly contests so best of luck if you decide to go forward with it
