View Full Version : I fall a lot, but do it gracefully.

I've taken a few tumbles in the last month or so. I'm not sure what is the reason, but it seems to be happening much more frequently. Fortunately, I tend to fall gracefully.
First three falls were at work. One was legitimate and I got a slight torn muscle in my side above my hip. The other two were bonehead moves and pretty embarassing.
And now to the most recent fall....drumroll please!!!!!!!!!
I fell into a five foot hole. Somehow I managed to come away with only a twisted lower leg, swollen ankle, and some cuts and bruises. Scared the bejeesus out of me b/c I stepped into it walking backwards, completely my fault!
Out of all the crazy strongman I do I only hurt myself on stupid falls.

Man, there's nothing worse than falling backwards down or into something. Your heart just leaps into your mouth due to the complete lack of warning.
I fell down a set of stones stairs one time, trying to spot something up high whilst talking on my phone. Not my finest hour...

Falling down backwards is bad enough but who among us has fallen up anything? I did so in high school as I was trying to keep up with a hot chick and ended up tripping as I was walking up the stairs almost breaking my ankle, not one of my finer high school memories.

i rarely hurt myself training, but, just this past summer(no alcohol was involved), i slipped down my inlaws backsteps and tweaked my L4 and L5.maybe if booze was involved i would have been more limber, and not hurt myself at all.

Like a week ago, I was running late for one of my classes, so I was running up the stairs, and I ended up tripping up the steps in front of like 10 people. I just got up and kept running, but I could hear the people laughing about it and a couple people who were on the phone telling whoever they were talking to that some schmuck just fell up the stairs. Getting embarrassed is always a fun experience.

We have 11 pet ducks out at the ranch and last Thursday i went out to feed them during a blizzard and i fell into the culvert. I went up to my chest in snow and sank knee deep in water. It scared the heck out of me, cause i didn't think i was going to get out.

Scott,
I know that if I kicked ass at Nat's and went top two, my head would be so frigging big that I would constantly topple over!!

Yeah thanks Mark! Haha! My little brother says my upper body is too big for my legs. I think he might have a point!
Need to add some mass and strength to my ostrich legs!

I fell up some stone steps once it wasn't that embarrasing cos noone saw it but it really hurt and I bit my tongue doing it. The pain didn't last long though because it did it just before getting a tat on my ankle that hurt a lot more cos its a really awkward place to get it done.
The worst fall I had was one winter when I was little, the pond in our backgarden had frozen over and my brother and I were trying to work out how solid it was. Before I realised how far forward I'd walked I went right through the ice and up to my neck in frezing water. And then my mum made me undress in the freezing conservatory!

I have a bad habit of not looking where I am going when I walk along sidewalks (always looking at everything else but what is under my feet) so every now and then I step off of the curb at a cross walk or something not thinking there will be a drop off, so naturally I either stumble or eat asphalt. i also have a bad habit of tripping over the edge of lifting platforms,

my brain didn't figure out my last growth spurt. It's been 8 or 9 years. I smack into doorways with my shoulders a lot. And by a lot I mean a LOT.
It would be rather humorous but hte last time I did this I cracked the molding around one of hte hallway entries in my parents' house. Expensive

Scott, it could be that your massive 230lb frame is too much for your chicken legs, so they buckle. If you need me to hold your hand this weekend so you don't fall, lemme know. I'm here to help!

I was once cleaning vines off a fence by order of the Dept. of Homeland Security. that sounds bad. It was just part of my regular landscaping job. Anywho, it was down by the ocean with lots of rocks. I was carrying a bunch of vines so big that I couldn't see where I was going, and all of a sudden my foot did not hit the ground and I fell about five feet onto my face onto jagged rocks. I have no idea have I came out of this one with only a scratch on my arm, I guess because I had no idea what was happening until I hit the ground.

I went to get my oil changed a while back. I was in a tuck and when I pulled into the Jiffy lube I hopped out and the next thing I know I am on my ass! I jumped up as fast as I could, because I was quite bemused at my suddenly horizontal attitude, which must have been a lot faster than the lube technician was expecting because he jumped backwards away from me and fell on the ground. I turns out they had just mopped the floor and forgot to put out any of those dumb 'Florr is Wet!' signs. I didn't get a free oil change out of it though.

Don't feel bad brother, I fell down the stairs at my in-laws last Christmas, broke my ankle and took out about a 4 ft section of drywall.

In elementary school, I was on one of those big play set things. Well I took a step back thinking that there was wood there, but fell back about 3 feet or so landing on my head. I blacked out for a bit and woke up with blood everywhere.
But mostly I run into doors that I think are open, and the occasional screen door

Alright, I'll share a story since I busted on Scott and didn't contribute anything worthwhile...
A couple weeks ago we had a particularly hard deadlift session and I was pretty sore afterwards. The next night I was getting up from my glider chair at the computer. My legs were too fatigued and I stumbled backwards over the arm of the chair and onto the floor.

My ankles tend to turn at random moments. Actually, not really random - whenever I'm walking somewhere I can fall down a hill or steps or when there's something hard nearby (like a dumpster I can crack the back of my head on and freak out the wife and mother-in-law). When I was first married, I was playing a game of pickup basketball (this was about a hundred pounds ago) and landed on someone's foot and rolled my ankle pretty good. I wasn't going to bother going to a doc (we didn't have insurance at the time) becuase I knew he'd tell me to ice it, keep it elevated, and not to use it any more than I had to. After a few days of nag..."gentle persuasion" by my wife, I gave in and went to the doc. After giving me the advice I knew he would, he officially diagnosed me with ... "floppy ankles". I never knew that was a medical term, but there you have it.
