First is a story about Hugo Girard coming back again. I hope and pray that he'll have a solid, injury free season this time around around.
Second, and this really struck me, in the story about the events for the upcoming FitExpo, they will have:
"On Saturday, all the competitors will have a chance to compete on the main stage, as they attack a 400-pound, 10-1/2 inch log, which they will press for reps, before the field is cut to the top twelve."
A FOUR HUNDRED POUND LOG PRESS FOR REPS!?! Holy Hanna! 20 years ago this event likely would have ended with just about everyone recording "Zero".
It's a testament to the power of the guys competing today, and how far our sport has advanced, that people can even contemplate this!

That 400lb log is actually a bench press thing. Two competitors lying on the stage at the same time, sounds interesting.
The event is crazy heavy though. See here - Fit Expo details (http://www.thefitexpo.com/events/strength.html)

Laying on the back is good for between events, especially after medleys, tire flips, or any other cardio-oriented ones. :C:

They had this event in the 1984 WSM in Sweden. At least I think that was the one. I was a very interesting event as the logs they pressed had no handles. I think it will be cool.

Benching a log is easier than benching a barbell, IMO. A couple weeks ago we did this in training because Jason Bergmann, who trains with us, will be in the FitExpo. To me, it felt much easier than a barbell.

The athlete will attempt to lift and carry various (pairs of) implements in his bare hands each for a set distance (a pair of 350lb suit cases, a pair of 385lb FW cylinders, and a 900lb frame). Furthest or fastest time to complete course wins. Multiple set-downs allowed. The athlete will have 60 seconds time limit to complete course. Each implement must entirely cross the line before moving on to the next one, and the finish line. Splits timed on each completed carry.
Ouch! I'm assuming its only going to be like 30 feet each way, but thats still pretty full on.

It sounds pretty similar to last year's, maybe/probabaly a bit heavier. You should check out the vid.
Here's Jesse doing it last year.
