View Full Version : CalPoly gym is sexist

SO one of my good buddies is getting back into climbing, been giving him tips on worthwhile assistance lifts (used to work a climbing wall, got to do it for free. Woohoo).
He said he didn't have a good gym. I asked him about the school gym. And he was telling me about their stupid rules
We've seen the no grunting rules and all that, which are clearly directed at guys that are serious about the iron game. And one might argue they're sexist, but it'd be a somewhat weak one due to the lack of direct gender-specific language.
But CalPoly has a GUY ONLY NO SLEEVE RULE.
Girls are allowed tanktops. Guys can't do tanktops OR cutoffs.

Good. Bloody things look ridiculous. Especially the ones with hoods...

I'm probably the only gay dude in the world who is anti-tank top. But in any case, to try to regulate it, especially at the gym, is pretty damn stupid.

The one reason I can think of is that some of the bigger guys in my gym who wear very small vest / tank top type things... well, you can see their nipples. Now I'm not saying this should be banned altogether, but if I could work out with having to watch another man's sweaty nipples, that would be awesome.
But yeah, to regulate what clothing people can wear to the gym to that degree is just daft.

I wish the entire world would put this ban into effect. And a no mandals law also. College girls on the other hand should be allowed to wear as little clothing as they feel comfortable with. Sexist? Yes. Awesome? Completely!

Amen.
Show-off with a good lift, not a sexy tube-top.

you guys wear sleeves when you train?

I myself wear sleeves when I train but how hard core can the atmosphere be with stupid rules like that! People should not care about what the other guy is wearing as long as it is not spandex or offensive and if they get offended by tank tops then maybe their weak little world needs to be offended. I don't think it should be a problem as long as it is not a low cut tank top and they clean the equipment after use.
Besides, with no cut off sleeves and tanktops, how are all the pretty boys supposed to show off their armband tattoos! HA HA HA!

If I can't show off my big guns in the gym there's no point going.

I just can't stand the sleeves rubbing all over my arms. I actually literally chafe if it's an ME day for multiple muscle groups.
Also, most shirts that are loose enough around the chest are too loose around the waist, and shirts that are right around the waist are too tight in the chest.
Beaters and cutoffs get around it.

It's that year i spent in Britain, sucked the manliness right out of me. It's like a black hole that testosterone cannot escape from. Considering you've lived their all your life you should be proud of the fact that you can sport facial hair.

Boy, I was born and raised in Texas. I was shootin, cussin, and getting my butt kicked by cattle before you were born.
In a food establishment such as a bar that serves food they can have the guys no sleeves rule.Only because of the underarm hair. But in a gym where everyone is sweating I cant see the feasibility of this.

Just sounds like a dress code rule. Silly, but hey that's what they want.

IF I would want to move to the states, I would either choose Colorado or Texas: Elk or Deer... always a tough question!

If you guys are spending time trying to determine what anatomy is visible on men wearing tank tops, it is quite obvious you aren't training hard enough...

I guess the muscle tee is the lovechild of a tank top and a regular t-shirt.

In my defense it's very poor facial hair...

is there a rule barring sleeve slitting? you still have sleeve, just cut at the flat fold to allow it to expand if they are that tight. or just wear bigger shirts.
THAT was funny! :D
