I finally got some Captains of Crush grippers yesterday. I got a Trainer, #1, #1.5 and a #2. I can close the trainer and #1 easily for reps. The #1.5 is tougher, but I can usually get 3 reps or so. I was surprised I was able to close the #2 for a few singles. I must admit though, there were more times I missed closing the #2. I never realized how precise your hand placement needs to be. If my thumb was too far forward, it was a no go. If it was too far back, the span was too great for my hands. Oh well, soon I'll be ordering the 2.5 and3. Even though closing the 3 is a long way off, having one will be the inspiration I need.
Edit. In case anyone's wondering, yes my hands hurt bad today, both from the reps and the knurling.

According to Ironmind, closing the #2 out of the box with no training is a big feat. If you're serious, I bet you will be able to work up to certifying on the #3 within a year.
I'm always within a quarter inch on my #2, but that's the hardest part of the close! I was pretty happy to pick it up out of nowhere a couple of weeks ago and get a couple singles though.
Some people hate on grippers saying that gripper strength is useless, but I think they're fun.

I agree with you there. Get one you cant close and give it a solid go every now and then.. I think it helps.

I wouldn't exactly say no training. No gripper training, but years of various grip training. I have strong hands and wrists (now if only the rest of me would catch up!!).

I got a triple today with the #2. I love these things. I'm starting to get into grip training.
Next up. I'm going to make homemade versions of Ironminds telegraph key and handshake grippers.

Problem with those is that it is difficult to keep your bodyweight out of it...

Grippers are addicting!! hehe
I personally would consider grippers practically useless for strongman unless you're doing holds to failure or something. I got more benefit from two hand plate pinching, one hand deadlifts, and just lots of time with a bar in my hands.

Agreed. Conor (my son) can't even close the #1 but can walk with 230 pound farmers to the cows come home. However, they're fun to play with.
