I have a set of Slaters stone moulds & i am having a problem
with them popping apart as i`m making stones.
I do the usual things like poke em with a stick & such.
I tape em together with gaffa tape but this doesn`t seem to
hold em together like it used to.Does anyone on here have
any ideas on how i can take the slipperyness off of my moulds ?
I`m having to use a whole roll of tape for each stone.

sounds like you got the release agent on the outside of the mold. if so, you'll have to get the appropriate solvent to remove it.

I pre-taped my last batch and used a more soupy mix that I can pour easier. This way you know the thing is taped solid before you start. You also might be being too rough. I had this problem when tapping on the side of a mould which was almost full.

Please do not use Gaffa Tape use duct tape or even better the new Gorilla tape. Prior to taping you may want to take the mold to a power washer and clean it if it is well used. You may also want to clean the mold w/ denatured alcohol once you’re done with the power washer. Are you taping a cold mold? If so it won’t stick as well. Tape from about 1" from the pour hole down across the retaining ring to the bottom of the mold and do this working all the way around the mold using 4 to 8 strips of tape then tape the retaining ring. It will hold together. Thanks, Steve

On my last stone I made the mistake of trying to pack in a few extra handfuls of concrete by hand, the force caused the mold to pop apart dispite being duck taped very well. This ruined the shape of the stone, so this odd ball stone is now a cool landscape orniment.

Is oblong shape like the inver stone? If so try pressing it!
