I saw this on the news, he said he wanted to spend more time with his family.

He is still a great strongman. When his foot heals up I wonder if he'll stay in retirement...

Hugo's a good guy, I've hung out with him a few times in Thunder Bay and Kitchener. A buddy of mine, who lives in the same town as Hugo during the fall and winter months, sometimes trains with him (he's 19 and can bench 440 in a t-shirt). I can understand growing tired of continuously competing. He won't stop training (I'd bet money on this). Happy retirement Hugo (for now). I'd like to see Hugo back in powerlifting.

Its a shame that Hugo is making this decision, but like Jesse said, when he is fully healed will he want to live with that decision?

I think Hugo should time out until hes fully recovered and then try a few World Strongman Cup competitions!

I was with Steve B and Jessen in Poland this weekend and they too mentioned nothing about Hugo retiring. They did say he had reinjured his achilles tendon during a demo so it may be that he won't be able to compete this year, but heard nothing on retirement.

Hugo is a friend of mine and I never heard anything regarding this, I saw Hugo less than a month ago and although he tore his achilles a second time, he was optimistic that he would heal and come back. If Hugo does ever retire from strongman, he will most likely train for powerlifting.
