I know there are several Highland Game competitors here, and I want to begin competing however on all the registration forms I see they ask for your Class. Can some one explain the difference between the Men A, B and C classes?
I understand the Light Class is for 190 lbs or less and the Masters are for 40 y/o plus, but can not figure out the other three classes and where I should start. FYI, I have never competed in Highland but do have throwing experience in Track and Field.
Thanks for all your help.

I believe if the show has a C class that is for novice and B class is for lower ranking Ams and A is for the more advanced highland competitor.

Having recently started highland games (3 games so far this year) let me relate what I have come to know. what i know is that most comp. are different as to how they are set up, run and how many classes that they let throw. some games will have a 'C" class, and a "D" class or a novice division. All of these designation are relatively the same. someone who has very little or no experiences will be in these divisions. this is totally at the discretion of the promoter. another game will not have novice, Ds or Cs, but will only have B's and A's. With in the B class you could have all skill levels from some one who has never thrown before to some one who has been throwing for years and has not been good enough to be bumped to the A class. Moving from B's to A's was recently discussed on the ssaaa web sight and here is what was said
"Since it was asked this weekend, I will repost the SSAAA position on moving from B to A. I will leave this post as a sticky at the top of the forum.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***When someone wins a B division competition AND accomplishes this by throwing 3 of the following 4 marks (in that game), then he moves to the A division:
25 feet - 56# WFD
50 feet - 28# WFD
60 feet - 22# Hammer
11 feet - 56# WOB
***If 3 of these 4 marks are not met, then he may continue to throw as a B.
***If a current A athlete has "been promoted" by virtue of winning what amounts to a novice B competition, he may petition the SSAAA to review his AVERAGE marks over the past two calendar years. If the AVERAGE is less than the marks listed above, then he may move back to throw as a B pending the approval of the SSAAA.
***Throwers who are currently A's who cannot reach these marks will stay in the A division.
***Movement back to a B from an A will be addressed on a case by case basis.
also if you win over all as a B a couple of times you can also be pushed in to an A so you just dont stay and sand bag the B's just to keep your winning streak going.
the masters divions I have seen so far ahve started between the age of 40-45. i think once again the promoters have a bit lee way as to how he wants to run his show.
You could also check the NASGA data base for the official rules and regs.
good luck to you in your throwing. I love it.

Thanks for the info. I've been checking the NASGA website and the SSAAA website so I am sure that will help. I downloaded the rules and regs and with a buddy of mine, we are in the process of making some of the implements to so that we have our own to practice with.
Again thanks for all the help.
