What are the Grand Prix's for 2007

So far we have lined up four spectacular Grand Prix for this year.
Starting the tour in April at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Resort just
outside of NYC.
This show has everyone from Pudzianowski to Janne Virtanen there. With
the Great Bill Kazmaeir waxing lyrical on the MC's microphone and Svend
Karlsen presenting the tv alongside myself. And if that werent enough
World Strongest Man winners to tempt you there then our head referee is
Jouko Ahola of Finland, the WSM in 1997 and 1999. And for strongman
fans you can enjoy a 'meet and greet' with the athletes and stars
beforehand. So come and enjoy the show.
But, if you dont make this one then we go on to Poland in May. Muscle
Beach in June and finish in Norway at the beginning of July.

Any new characters coming to the WSM SS this year?

Alhazov Vladislav from Isreal is going to debut on the Super Series at
the Mohegan Sun. Those who are fans of powerlifting might have seen him
copeting at the Arnolds in the WPO super heavyweight class. With a
squat of over 500 kilos he has a big future in strength sports. And talking
of great powerlifters, we may well have the great Brian Siders
competing on the Super Series for the first time this year. The IPF World
Champion has shown his impressive ability at the Arnold Strongman Classic
the last two years. There are many more new stars from Europe too. You
will have to watch to find out!

Do you think Mariusz is past his best?

"You aint seen nothing yet" is what I would quote to people who are
starting to doubt Mariusz's staying power. He is one of the greatest
strongmen of all time. And unlike many men he sems to have an indestructible
edge to him which allows him to compete in contest after contest
throughout the year. He won all of our WSMSuper Series shows in 2006 and I am
backing him to do that again this year. In a one day show he is very
hard to beat - he just doesnt have weaknesses. And in all my years in
sport I believe he quite possibly the hugriest competitor I have come
across.

What is the American threat looking like over the coming season?

The current WSMan Phil Pfister has decided to focus solely on the WSMan
contest and he is the only competitor who has this allowance. He gets
an automatic qualification for the WSM contest this year.
It will be great fun to see what crop of athletes qualify through the
Super Series this year and get a pop at the Worlds. Certainly from the
USA Don Pope who finished third at WSM 06 has to be a major threat.
Though the bad news early in the year is that he has suffered a biceps
injury. Also recovering from injury is Jesse Marunde - he has had his
knees cleaned up and if he gets back on form then he is still a young
man with a potential to take the World title. Other names like Kevin Nee
and Josh Thigpen have qualified for a Super Series outing this year so
expect them both to be one year wiser and one year stronger. Lets not
forget - despite Kevin and josh being in their early twenties they have
gone to four WSM contests between them. So they have wise heads on
young shoulders.

What is the most impressive feat of strength you have seen in the past
year?

I have to give Big Phil Pfister's comeback at the Worlds as one of the
greatest combacks in sport. To win five events in a row in the final
was just remarkable. And when everyone woke on the final day we knew that
Mariusz still had the super Yoke/Car Walk to bank on. But somehow Big
Phil just went crazy and won that event too. The final event goes down
in strength folklore - Pfister and Pudzianowski equal after four stones.
Pudzianowski stalls on the fifth and Phil pips him to the post to
finally overtake Mariusz on points and win the title for the USA. The first
title USA has had in 23 years.

How can an athlete get to the World Strongest Man competition?

To be honest, it is really simple. All you have to do is qualify
through the World Strongest Man Super Series. The top athletes from each
event will get invited through to the WSM each year. There are going to be
a minimum of four WSM SS events this year, so plenty of opportunity for
the cream to rise!

So how do you get to the WSM Super Series?

There are competitions being set up all over the World to help the
Super Series team decide who is worthy of qualification to our
competitions. For Example, In the USA, Odd Haugen ran a qualification for American
competitors in Pasedena earlier in the year.
So for details of how to enter, please write to
athlete@super-series.com and one of our team will reply (Please add
info on yourself so that we can identify your ability).

What channels can we see the WSM Super Series on?

Great news for strength fans!
Fox Sports, one of the most major sports networks in the USA, has
included all of the WSM SS events into its schedule. Of course, we are still
going around the world on our other carriers as well, including Channel
5 in the UK, TSN in Canada, Eurosport in Europe, Fox in Australia and
many more around the World. Watch out for tv scheduling dates coming up
on this site!

Whats the news on Super Series Merchandise?

Well, the great news is that we have started a range of t-shirts that
absolutely rock. We have started with two designs and so far Super
Series fans have welcomed both. We are soon moving onto posters and of
course we have our range in dvds. If you come to the shows this year then
you will be able to get your official merchandise signed by the athletes.
Getting Karlsen, Pudzianowski, Virtanen, Kazmaeir and Ahola at the
Mohegan Sun to sign a t-shirt might make a good ebay sale for the business
minded fan, haha!! And if you want to get a hold of one of the copies
of the training videos by Svend Karlsen and Magnus Samuellson then click
on the link to my own site www.colinbryce.tv I will be updating it with
photos of all the super series shows this year too.

Thanks for reading and keep up the training!
