Okay I'm in dire need of a kilt to pimp around in so should I buy my first one or get a pattern and have the wifey make me one?

So if I should just buy a training kilt what brand should I buy, Sport Kilt, Stillwater, or what?

Man I can't wait to freak out my neighbors with my new kilt.

Make it. They are expensive and I bet the ol' pitch fork will hit it once or twice.

Okay thanks man.

But why did you refer to my wife as pitch fork?

I got mine from Sportkilt, pretty reasonable prices, comfortable, and no problems competing in them (well, except for last Xenia when it got stuck to one of the stones and yanked right off of me! :D )

They look pretty good too.

craig says: the stillwater kilts are better quality, but the new sportkilts look like they'll be just as good. we have some on the way and will post more details when they arrive.

I got mine from sportkilt.com. I was going to make my own but my tartan material was $28.00 a yd plus SH( I need three yards) and then I had to spend the time making it.....nooo! sport kilt, shipped to the house, was $89.00. however spend the extra dollars on the belt loops and get a belt they look a lot better. The material seems to be good and mine has held up well after taking some nasty falls during competition.

This is kinda off the subject but Athena Oregon holds a Calidonian games every year in July and I was wandering if you could drink beer at these events. Just seems like a event where a beer drinking redhead(well shaved head, red facial hair) might fit in. I think that I will order a kilt so I am paying attention to this thread for advice.

We drink beer after all the highland games I have been too.

But i would say just buy your kilt from sportkilt. Mine is basic and cost like $55. Its held up real well. So just got out and buy one.

PS-Don't forget to wear spandex underneath

Thanks for the advice Brandon. $55 sounds reasonable so I will definatly check out their web site to order a kilt. Beer, heavy things, kilts, sounds like a good time indeed!

Ok let me just say with all respect.....nobody trains in their kilts.

I've been meaning to get a sport kilt. I looked into making one and with time and $ spent in stuff to make it with, it is cheaper to go with the sport kilt.

I've been considering getting a kilt for a long time, and not just for competing in. Any advice on which to get? Stillwater or Sportkilt? Is one better for lifting and one better for walking around in?

I mainly want a kilt to pimp around town in and get crazy looks from the normal people.

I'm an attention ho.

That's the reason I want one. Kilts=badass

I like kilts. Most people think they are dresses. That's why you get wierd looks, despite them being badarsed.

I want one because it would go well with my crazy scottsman beard, or maybe its just a hobo beard, either way.....

All I know about kilts is: Last year in Clovis, our buddy Hamish, who is Scottish (as in from Scotland) had his kilt on at the bars after....and girls could not help themselves.

Of course, being 6'4" with long hair and tattoos and basically looking like a the actor who was the Wolverine if he was a real man, doesn't hurt either.

anyway, kilts work, too bad they don't make them for 5'8" guys......

see ya

Any input from those who actually have kilts on Sportkilt vs. Stillwater? Is Sportkilt better for competitions and Stillwater better for wallking around in? Anybody?

For walking around I'd go with a utilikilt (www.utilikilts.com).

^^^^ Surely you jest?

As kara said earlier, i do have a few of the new sportkilts being sent to us, they look like they could be better than the stillwater ones.

I can give you guys a comparision when they get here if you want. I have both kinds, alonng with some other ones too. 15+ kilts right now, i think.

A comparison from a discerning source would be much appreciated.

I have been looking at both companies, and it seems Stillwater provides for free a lot of the extras that Sportkilt charges for. I would really like to get the USA tartan Sportkilt, but IDK if I would need/want belt loops and buckle closures since it is a Velcro closure. Would I need a belt with a kilt? I'm so confused...

Craig Smith

Belt loops - only if you're gonna wear a belt with it, which is probably a no. Buckles - if you are gonna wear it out, is a yes.

Hopefully this week they'll ship us our kilts. I have 5 coming from them so i can give you an accurate assessment of the new ones. If your looking at the regular ones (not the new "works" kilt), then go with Stillwater. If you're looking at the new ones, hold off and ill let yall know.

I wasn't gonna go with the Works kilt. That's pretty expensive. I was planning on going with the regular Sportkilt with buckles extra, but Stillwater includes those.

I'm not sure I can hold off much longer...with the recommendation you just gave, I buy my Stillwater this weekend.

I'm going to wait.

I'm looking for a kilt to just hang out in and I don't really want to wear a betl with it, I'm looking for just the velcro closure.

Thanks in advance for the review.
