I just saw 300 and it was great! There were arguments on another thread of no character development, but I though there was enough for what was needed. They were Spartans and were fearless in battle and they showed that. I though it was very well done and will for sure buy it on DVD. I know I'm late on this post, but it just came to Germany in an English theater. Today was the opening day.

I watched it two nights ago and I definitely liked it. I had heard mixed opinions but pretty much knew going in that I was going to like it going off what other people didn't like and what my taste in movies is like. Definitely a good flick.

Seriously, I can't take it anymore! That movie sucked! It wasn't even as good as Troy. Have action movies sunk so low recently that everyone is getting all hot and bothered by a mediocre blood porn? Go rent Braveheart if you want to see a good action movie, or Gladiator or Troy or even 13th Warrior!
Oh yeah, I like movies. A movie doesn't have to do too very much for me to like it, this movie failed to succeed in even the modest task with which it was charged.

Well....I liked it. It definitely isn't on the same level as Braveheart or Gladiator, but those two are a couple of my favorites. I liked Troy as well. In the end I was entertained by 300 so I gave it a thumbs up. I think the problem with some viewers is that they are going into this movie listening to all the hype surrounding it and then getting disappointed because their expectations were way too high.

Get out of town dude! Troy and 13th warrior sucked hard! Judging from what your taste in movies happens to be I don't think you have a coherent vote on this one. In Troy he did the same thing over and over again, the stupid neck stab thing, and 13th warrior was just plain old cheesy. The movie is what it is, a comic book brought to life. Blood and gore and lots of one liners is what it is. I hate it when people try to compare movies to each other. It isn't Braveheart or Troy, it is 300 and it was a great movie.

That's it, you're off my Myspace friends list Rus!! That is some faggage I just can't support! hahaha
I downloaded it (I'm a pirate. Arrrr.) and liked it a lot. The photography was excellent, and I loved all the characters. The bad guy reminded me of the Indian dude from Street Fighter II

one of the greatest war movies, ever. period. i have seen it twice, going to see it again. both times i was pumping my fist in the air, at the glory laid out before me.....hiding behind a wall of the slain, how awesome is that? i have a competition coming up, and i plan to watch it before that, then go and kill all in my path. AAAOOHH, AAOOH, AAOOHH!!!!!

I finally saw it and loved it! It has some of the best scene's (speech at the well) Haa! America has lost much of its warrior culture and spirit. Crushed by the sensitivity and PC police. On the news, at night, we sit around watching for the news people to announce how many of our soldiers had died rather then how many of the enemy has died. We are no longer allowed to rejoice in the death of our enemy. We now are supposed to feel bad when the bad guy dies and feel guilty when we kill him.
Ahh... but back to the movie I look forward to seeing it in I-max. However I do not think it will translate well to the small screen. I just got to get that new house built with my home theater in it.
Let your warrior within you come out and play!

My permanent address is like 5 minutes from the zoo. Might be a good come down from Iowa after I roll back to Burnsville.

If you watch the tv show Lost, the guy that plays Xerxes in 300 is a character on that show. Maybe that's where you thought you knew him from.

Well I disliked the movie. The battle scenes were awesome and that it's. The rest blew. The acting was rediculous and felt amateurish. The plot went nowhere. The Spartans were practically invincible (Good hero's are made interesting by their vulnerabilities, not their strengths). I'm sure the problem is trying to adapt a graphic novel into a movie page by page. A medium doesn't always translate well into another.
One liner action movies were fine in the 80's with movies like Rambo and Terminator. Today I expect more from my movies. I know someone commented about hating it when people compare movies, but how else are we to judge them? When the bar gets set higher by similar movies, we must from then on compare all similar movies to it. That's how everything works. This movie does not get anywhere near Braveheart or Gladiator. I did dislike Troy (although not as much as 300) and hated 13th warrior.
And this has nothing to do with me being built up by hype, I saw the first trailer for this movie that that was it. When I heard it was playing I went to see it.
Maybe some people here enjoyed the homoerotic tones (Xerxes and his transvestites) throughout the movie along with watching grown men in their underwear. HAHAHA... I kid ... I kid... Well... maybe not.

Chris,
The second time did you still get "excited" when the big guy was giving Leonidis that back rub???? I bet your partner was reaching into that cut out bottom pop corn box pretty often during that scene, huh?? :disgust:
see ya
Mark

That's definately the French-Canadian in you coming out... j/k buddy.... And speaking of "coming out"... how can ANYONE not WORSHIP 300??????? Every line in that movie was CLASSIC. It was a movie you could quote every line to just like Braveheart. It praised such things as bravery in the face of near-impossible odds, courage in the face of evil, self-sacrifice, and standing for what you believe no matter what. How can anyone knock this?
