SMA 1998 the "other canadian" was Grant mcReynolds(i'm pretty sure)
Also of note was Big Tony Scrivens competed---missed the finals by one placing--he was 11th overall(from points accumulated in day 1)--i hung out quite a bit with Big Tony and i remember he passed out on the Yoke(low blood sugar-?-)
-myself and Brian Neese had to pick him up(well sort of pick him up)-
Tony put on a clinic on the 240lb Log Incline for reps :p

Thanks Kevin. That helps for the St Louis 2 contest. I looked on the Samson Pwer site, and contacted Mark, but that one is not there (everything else of the time is, though).

No i didn't have the pleasure of doing the contest
I was there--Several friends competed and my wife worked both days shuffling paper and helping keep score-

That was a ridiculous farmers though---remember Ahola -?-probably from boredom-walked into the stands and up a flight of real stairs(he was DQ'd on that event for going off course). They didn't show that on the video.

ET,

I was going through my junky office a few months ago and found the original show booklet or what ever you call it. Has a list of most of the guys. I am slammed so can't say when I will get it done but I will try to type out the competitor list and post.

Pretty much everyone from St. Louis was either in it or helping.

Talk to Wayne sometime. He has a much better memory then me and remembers a lot of the placings.

Ahola and Phil where on the only two heavies to get all the stones.

If only Mavromatis (sp?) could have figured out how to make money on the contest he would have "really" gotten things going back then. It was I guess the biggest turning point of the resurgence of strongman in the US.

It was a great time!

Eric (And anyone else interested in seeing these),
I read above that you were looking for the results to the 98 Strongest Man Alive.

I found it...in the strangest of places. There is a site on the internet called The Wayback Machine. Actually if you Google that, it will produce a link to the site of: http://www.archive.org/ (http://www.archive.org/)

Anyway, I knew of it and figured I'd look for what you needed there. As it turns out I was successful.

This site, is nothing but an online archive for nearly every site, from many years back. It doesn't always have every photo, but it has a LOT of content. In our case, for the website StrongestManAlive.com, which was owned by Chris Mavromatis, it has multiple versions archived, going all the way back to 1998 when Chris had it.

So go to the site, at the search box where it lists http:, enter strongestmanalive.com and hit enter. This is the page it will take you to:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://strongestmanalive.com (http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://strongestmanalive.com)

I selected the very first one (oldest), which was Dec 1, 1998, and it gave me a link to the site from that date.
That link:
http://web.archive.org/web/19981201055655/http://www.strongestmanalive.com/ (http://web.archive.org/web/19981201055655/http://www.strongestmanalive.com/)

The results you are looking for are listed by event and weight class, for the qualifying heats as well as the finals.

Here are the top 10 in each class , as well as every competitor that was in the meet.
Enjoy!

Rick Fowler

Here's a little more in the way of interviews from some of the top guys in this contest. Pretty good stuff.

The archived version from Jan. 1999 lists a link to interviews, which can be found here:
http://web.archive.org/web/19990125103547/http://www.strongestmanalive.com/

I remember Chris also had an interesting section that detailed his stones and how they were made (Which I think are actually now at Wayne's), but I can't locate it.

--i had forgot about big Johan being in the top 10-
-thanks for all that info Rick-
This show paid out well also--$5000 to the heavyweight winner and ,i believe,$5000 to the middleweight winner-?-

It was Mawr Wallace who dropped a stone on an ankle and finished the contest with a broken ankle--

Jujah Tukhasari(Aholas training partner),won the middleweights, was from another planet

Mike Gillert trains with us at Odd's. He is awesome at most events. Only real weakness is stones and grip, but his pressing and yoke are incredible. When he gets his head into stonelifting more and learns how to be more explosive, he will be slaughering pros again.

OK ET what gives? You writing a book or something? You have me real curious now.

Don't Willie and Dione have 2000 NASS Nats stuff? Or you would email Bill Holland of the Anvil.

At home, washing his tights! He's also a lurker here and refuses to sign up because we bring out the filthiest in each other with our remarks and we would both be banned within a few posts.

Would love to read them!

No idea on Bill. I am sure Willie and Dione can help. I think he the Anvil is still registered to him so the much be a way to contact him through there? Or leave a post for him?

Didn't Willie win two NASS Lightweight nats then Nick Osborne won the next two?
