View Full Version : 105kg LW + 400 lb. Log Challenge

Ryan Rhodes

I'm not screwing around. This morning, I pressed more weight over my head than I ever have in my life, as a HW or otherwise.

I'm self taught and self trained. I've never ridden the coat tails of a pro and I'm still better than you. (Except to make a buck) I've never needed to prove myself against anybody because for most of my life, I've been my only competition. For at least one person out there, that's not good enough.

You measure their own worth by the worth of others so why not now as well. If you think you're going to be the first LW to clean a 400lb. log and put it over your head, just try, and record it if you do. 10" or 12"; rehbands or commando; press it like a man, or jerk it like a sissy. It's irrelevant.

You know you're the person I'm talking about. You can't do it. You won't do it. I am the reason why.

I'll post in this thread when it's done.

I'm self taught and self trained. I've never ridden the coat tails of a pro nor have I ever used illegal performance enhancers and I'm still better than you. Dude what the hell are you talking about. Ok om gonna be blunt here, First: There is no way you or a LW Am, or even a LW Pro could press 400 on Log maybe on a barbell, but not a log, we all saw HW Am Nick Brugal man rape that 390 like it was a warm up weight, but he was in HW. So sorry to destroy your dream. Its not possible as a LW.
Second: If you clean and pressed or even cleaned a 400lb log we would all like to see it.
Thats my 2 cents.

And yes i know im gonna recive neg reps for this, but hey thats just the B.S. detector talking. :D

Mr. Experienced has just crushed your dreams... P\/\/|\|3|)!!!

I know of several 231s in the mid 300s, some amatuers. The highest I've heard of from a lightweight was 170kgs (374lbs). I don't think it's out of reach. It'd be insane, and probably a world record, but not out of reach for a great presser with great technique.

I realize we're talking about a 2" axle being used by athletes that do not specialize in the oly lifts, but I don't see why 400 isn't attainable for a 231 strongman.

MarkSikora

No doubt that guy is around 400..

but....according to Willie Wessels on the Anvil

the lw/ pro record is held by a Finn at 353. I guess that's the "official" number...there are sure to be guys out there that have at least done that in training.

400 is certifiable as bad ass. Are there lw's that can do it???? Most likely a handful on a great day with the moons aligned etc. Will there be more in the future? Hell yes.

For now, it's all speculation and gossip. Do it in a contest, do it on video w/ witnesses or it's all just talk....

Don't forget, even w/ video.....who can tell a 5lb bumper from a 45lb bumper???????

Just food for thought....

If my camera was working I would post up my 399 log, 499 axel, 899dead, 399 power clean, 999 squat, 400 front squat, 300 farmers, 1100 tire, all at 200 lbs etc etc etc...but, alas, the batteries went dead, the lighting was bad, I had the wrong chip in, yadda yadda yadda.....

I look forward to many lw's posting up a 400 log. That is hard core.

Game on boys....who's "first"?????

I LOVE the internet.

see you all in Clovis (booze only), Red Bluff (competing) and Las Vegas (if we can stay healthy that long).. I guarantee you I will NOT hit a 300 yet alone a 400 anything in any of those places. Unless I drink too much in Vegas.............

Peace, Love, and happiness

Mark

No, no you don't.

There is not one, let alone several, LW pros or ams you know of who have pressed a mid 300 log.

If the record is 353, that pretty much says there's 1 guy with a mid 300 log, and he's not in the USA.

I'm telling you all what I'm going to do. I know there are a couple of great LWs out there with log weights comparable to mine. They probably take as much pride in their lift as I do. I'm challenging them. There are some less developed sm out there who have heart and dream big. I want them to challenge themselves.

If you're one of those armchair strongmen out there that are content with your stagnant numbers, sitting on a computer and talking crap about people like me, please keep doing so. I thrive on your BS; it pushes me harder and makes you look that much more sad.

If you've got the warrior spirit, if you've got the heart, step up; push yourself to be first to that mark. It's not that complicated. Seriously, if anybody was thrown off by the chemically imbalanced style of my initial post, you probably read too far into it.

The bottom line is this- How wicked would it be for a LW to have a log weight that could hang with some of the best HWs? Some of us are getting so close. I am pushing myself to be that guy. I want you to also. Simple as that.

See you there.

in all reality, all you're doin is blowin smoke on the internet. you haven't even replied with what you're doing right now, with a video. and the fact is, you obviously have a camera because you have showed us a video of your supposed 230x10 log.

to me, it is kind of assinine that you are coupling yourself with some of the top lw's in the world, when they have proven themselves and you have not.

What kind of numbers have you hit in contests you have competed in? I was trying to find you in contest results from the past two years but didn't find your results in any comps. I agree with Josh, it's got to be a legit contest max.

Remember a few months back when you neg. repped me and said that I couldn't put up more than 200 on the log? You also logged in under Elana Conklin to tell me that my avatar picture was actually Johnny Perry and some other name to neg rep me. Remember now? Well, in response to that, I put up a pic of me maxing a 320 log. Since, I've since put up other pics/videos of my log work, and other events as well just to let everybody know what's going on with me and make pathetic jackasses like youreslf look like the tools you truly are. It works pretty well and it doesn't cost me a thing.

In a week or two, I'll have lost 90+ pounds in the space of about 4 months and significantly increased all of my lifts across the board, including my log. You nor anybody else here has any idea of what I'm capable of. I don't even know. That's why I scare you, and that's why next time I visit my boys at Big Sac, you'll be conspicuously absent, because you know that I'll have no problem showing you just how powerful I am.

Thanks for the motivation, putz.

Ryan, as Sean is a good friend of mine I have to say chill the f*** out man. There's no reason to personally attack anyone, and I'm sure that you wouldn't outside of the internet world.

When you put up some vid of your log prowess, I'm sure some of the naysayers will be quiet, but until then stop with the petty internet threats.

An open challange..

Ryan Rhodes:

I am the promoter of the Saanich Sunfest Strongest Man contest here in Victoria - 2 hours from Aberden, scheduled for July 7th 2007. This contest will have over 500 spectators, some pro competitors and potentially be broadcast on local television.

I am personally sponsoring you to come and compete as a LW in this show, waiving your entry fee. this will give you a chance to compete and show your stuff to the public.

if competition is not your thing then I will offer you a log press challange..

come to my show and i will hold a special event - the Ryan 400 lb log press challange..

Hit this log in front of people and I WILL GIVE YOU A CHASHIERS CHEQUE FOR 1500.00 USD!! as well, as I am a big doubter, I will personally re-imburse all your travel expenses..

you can use an 8 inch 12 inch 16 inch log doesnt matter - belts, wraps, suit canas, single ply, triple ply , kevlar and demin..whatever..

my only question is would you like to compete or make us believers??

let me know

Cut this crap out immeidately.

Sean and Ryan: you guys both posted up stuff metioning/regarding Team Big Sac.

This kind of interent crap fest is NOT what we do there. As proud co-founder and current member, I am disgusted and saddened that our name is being tossed into this cesspool.

You guys both know that we take in just about anybody that wants to come and work out. So far almost everyone has been "humbled" when they come out. Humbled because they thought they were the next Jonny Perry until they actually started to train on implements. This includes Mick and myself.

Never on this forum or any other have you see Mick or I discredit anybody's lifts and/or accomplishments, no matter if they were far fetched or realistic. That is how we, and Team Big Sac, operate.

Unless someone is working out with another person all the time, nobody knows what that person is capable of. How many times has someone posted up on this, or other, forums, and then not been able to duplicate thier prowess in real life??? How many other times has someone showed up at a contest, didn't look like much, then dominated an event or the contest????

I'm sorry, I will stop ranting.

Here is the bottom line, I can't speak for Mick or Marilyn. As third in line after them at Team Big Sac though I will say this:

Nobody has the authority or permission to use our team name in any of these ridiculous posts. We have spent a few years building the reputation of Team Big Sac. We happen to enjoy the fact that we have earned respect from other crews/teams/people, even though we are not the most highly skilled or strongest competitors. We have done this through our good will and sportsmanship. Throwing our name around with this kind of trash does not help that reputation.

Sean, you will get your scolding this weekend in person. Ryan, you know you are always welcome to come down and train w/ us when you are in town. Next time I will try to be there all day with you guys.

Now, as Ari would say on 'Entourage': "Hug it out, bitches." ;)

With any luck at all you guys can settle this like men in Las Vegas. :EP:

That is a sweet deal, Ryan...

Hey, and Jamie, you and I both know that we've inflated our bench numbers in public! I still have a cousin who can do about the same as you. ;)

You and Ben don't even know jack about it! I know what he can do; he's got no reason to say anything about anybody.

Sean trained in my home for damn near a year. I know what he can do. He is stronger at 18 than I ever was.

I'm sure he has said some stuff to you. It's the internet. People efight on here every minute of every day. It still comes down to you threatening a teen. I don't think Eric's "half full" view is correct. I think you got some issues man. Good luck with your log!

You gotta be F'n kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?!?

1st. Ryan - If your log is even close to or over 300; Congratulations on your remarkable progress and significant weight loss since your last visit.

2nd. Sean - Stop it.

BOTH OF YOU - DO NOT DRAG ME, MY FAMILY OR MY HOME INTO YOUR PISSING MATCH!

ryan,
are you a LW or HW pro strongman? not sure. did you compete at nas nationals. i dont remember competiing against you.
Good luck on a 400 log as a LW, i dont see it happening in the next 5 years. But prove me wrong. But also concentrate on other core lifts, one event doesnt win a contest but can lose you one

Well you know some see the glass as half full and some see it as half empty, but I prefer to drink straight from the bottle :D.

First, I'm sorry Mick , Mark and Marilyn etc. I'm out of control and acting like an immature idiot.

Second, I just wanted this to be a sort of fun edgy ongoing challenge to the top. Kind of egg each other on etc. I've been doing really good lately, and thought the motivation of a bunch LWs actively gunning for the same mark with me would be a great way to push myself to hit it first. Freankly, I'm a good 70lbs. away from that mark Jamie, and don't have a chance of making that deficit up in 3 months. I've been kicking it around ideally as a 6 month plan of mine. BTW, I'm 240 something right now; I weigh again tommorrow; LW status is only a couple weeks away. I was over 300 in the big log pic.

If nobody want to make a run for it with me, that's fine. As far as I'm concerned, this is pretty much a dead issue. I'm still going for it. I'm know my technique/strength both have room to grow within weight class constraints and I think it's possible.

So that's it I guess.

i dont see anything wrong with a little friendly challenge and Ryan I think it is achievable .Peoples numbers are going up and up every day look. What was 10 years ago is now lightweight weights in a competition.

Ryan: Post a Video. If you already have... re-post it. I do believe you have good intentions and in the beginning were just trying to motivate fellow athletes. That is what I would like to believe. I think you have a sharp edge to your personna which rubs people the wrong way. (not always a bad thing)

Mark (Team Sac) I agree with everything you posted. I hold you guys in very High regard. You never Brag or put anyone down. You have true Team Integrity and are all stand up guys... And Gals! I always enjoy your posts.

I don't feel that Ryan was threatening anyone... I believe he was exclaiming that he would show of his strength... Harsh but effective.

Mr. Templeman, aaahhhh what can I say, the elder statesman takes charge....very nice, a class act as always. You sir are a master promoter. I think that is the best way to handle this matter...

Ryan,

No sweat. Personally, I would love to race you to a 400 log. Problem is...I have never done a 300 log. So.....it would be a mighty long race for me.

I know how it is to get excited when you hit a pr. Or....I used to know......

Lee,

First, I had about 40 lbs on you at that contest.

Second: the '70s were great, Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, Happy Days, Atari, tv's where you actually had to get up to change the channel, Showtime, you had to put the tv on channel 3 then click a button on the box,, then High School in the 80's, come on- Miami Vice, MTV when it was new and played video's, Martha Quinn VJ, Huey Lewis and the News, etc etc etc.

Old........Old........ why you.......ahh man, I forgot what I was going to say.....

When is your next contest Lee??? Are you going to Nationals at 175 or 200??? If I see you in Las Vegas, I will bring an extra ID so you can get into the bars and strip clubs. ;)

see ya later you young punk

I would like to go to nationals but I don't think I qualify. I will probably go as a spectator unless I can compete in the 175's. How do I know if I qualified?

So no one else but me sees this as awesome. I'm not gonna lie, Ryan is a weird dude, but the challenge seems fun. I don't have a log over here, but I'll keep training and see what I can do in a contest. My goal is to hit over 330 in a contest. I did 320 last July in a contest here in Germany.

Chris,

Unfortunately, I was never a big fashion guy. Never did the whole Miami Vice thing.....I think I did own a couple of pairs of Z Cavarrichis there in the early '90s though. I'll have to ask my mom for an embarassing pic. I'm sure she can find one or two.

A pic from a date?? Shoot, I was too busy drinking Barcardi big gulps in high school to date...sad, but true. I'll find something for you though, you sick, sick man.......

LOL, you too, we used to mix Bacardi 151 and coke in Big Gulp cups and take them to class. My Senior year I am sitting in a Government class with one, and the teacher walks up and picks it up and takes a drink, puts it back down and says nice mix, and walks away .
