Nate is what I go by. Its Short for my middle name. David is my real name but since my dad is David also I have always gone by Nate. Most people around here don't even know my as David but anytime I write or type somehthing with my name it is David that gets put on there.

David, I see NO reason why you would need to shave. Wait a couple of years first :F:.

The beard interferes with the SCBA. You can't get a good seal on the mask letting air in around the outside. Very upsetting if you in a smoke filled house or down wind from a car fire with toxic chemicals burning off.

It is traditional around here, that if any recognizable part of you ends up in the paper, then you have to bring in cake and ice cream for your shift.

Appearantly its not just your area. There are alot of guys on firehouse.com asking for drinks, icecream, diner, etc. :)

I concur. Besides, it's well documented that facial hair is a great filter (though it's generally in the realm of food), so it shouldn't be a problem if you can't get a tight fit with your SCBA.

Isn't that what vasoline is for? ;) That is what I had to put on my mustache for snorkling. I would change jobs before I shaved my beard.
