Well, I just got back home from the Sequim Irrigation Festival's Strongest Man competition where I was able to do some exhibition events. I am totally wiped, but it was an awesome day! It was great to meet some more pro Strongmen, and I will admit, I was in awe of Odd Haugen. Holy cow that man is simply amazing!!!
Jesse-thanks so much for having me come out, I had a blast!!!
I got to do 3 events today, harness truck pull, DL and stone (yes, only one).
The harness truck pull was by far the most difficult... I think I went about 60' and it was mostly uphill with a 10,000 lb something-or-other. Woo man, that was rough! I was pretty ready to puke afterward, luckily I manged to keep my food down.
Then I did the DL, went a bit light since it's been a while since I've done the DL and I just competed last weekend. Did 275 of the ground for 11 reps in 60 seconds.
Then we had my stone, it's only 165, but man did I have issues. I couldn't get it off the ground without tacky, which I've done so many times before... then I tried gorilla grip, got the thing in my lap but just couldn't get it on the platform... I couldn't leave without loading the dang thing, so I tackied up and loaded it twice. I'm not really sure how tall the platform was... Jesse???
It was so amazing to see all the men compete, let's see, we had Kevin Nee, Odd Haugen, Matt Parks, Breck Gault, Marshall White, Tim Nagy, Grant Higa and Jesse of course. Jesse won, which was quite impressive after his double knee surgery. M-dub took second, Nee third and I don't remember the rest...
I'm attaching a couple fun photos...
1. Truck pull
2. DL
3. Stones
4. Me and Higa
5. Me and M-Dub
6. Me and Jesse
7. Me, Jesse and Odd (good gracious, I'm still tiny!!!)
8. Me and Kevin, "bringing it in for the real thing"
9. Matt picking up Breck who shouldered me like a stone!
I couldn't find Tim for a good photo... and I also really wanted to get a picture with the forum's very own Patrick McGuffin!!! Dude, I'm sorry I didn't know you right off the bat, it took me a moment... Nerves!

Looks like it was a blast. Too bad I didn't know about it sooner or I would've gone. I didn't know all those pros were going to be there either. I think I'm slightly jealous. :D

Yeah I am really sorry for not being able to stick around to hang out with you any after the contest. About the time everything was being wrapped up Sarge was really wanting to get everything back to the gym so that he wouldnt have to do it later so he rounded up all us little helpers to go do that and by the time I got back you were no where to be found :( Sad day. Sucks because we only got to talk for like 5 minutes beforehand too. I will give my own action packed summary of the weekend adventure tommorrow or some other day, I just got home and I need sleep.
Ps. Who is that handsome devil in the background of that last picture

Can I ask what an irrigation festival is? Also thanks for the pics. Sequim is pretty much the place to live if you train strongman or even a fan. Second is Eau Claire,WI :)

you pretty much got it right. getting the feilds irrigated was and is a big deal for this area so we celebrate it every year. This was week is the 104th annual I beleive.
Kristyn, our stone platform is 54" .
Guys, Kristyn dominated that truck pull! It was a huge, stiff rolling truck too. Very legit pull. Long and slightly uphill in spots too. It never coasted, she had to pull all the way through the length of the course.
Nice job!~ Thanks for coming!
PS- Nice F-bomb on the mic in front of a thousand kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahahaaa dork! :BB:

SORRY!!! As soon as it came out of my mouth, I was like, oh no.... dang it, I need to work on that. Can't be going around cussing in front of children like that.... Note to self: practice being in front of people and speaking appropriately!!! I can do it at work, why I couldn't do it yesterday, well I just don't know...

Dont mean to laugh at ya Kristyn but thats funny!!! Dont worry 99% of people not used to being on the mic probably woulda done something like that.

I'm not surprised. At the Fox Cities contest, Kristyn and I actually went head to head on this event because we were running 2 at a time. We did put the LWs and women in an easier lane but, she was not far behind me at the finish.

Ok here is my little write up of this shindig. Me and my buddy Steve showed up in Sequim the night before the contest and crashed at Sarges house for the night, Sarge was really cool and gave us the "tour" as he called it and howed us all his old marines stuff. Anyways both me and my friend helped with the show and were running around a lot but this is what I did see and liked. I was able to talk to Grant, Sarge, Jesse, Chris Lee, Kory, Matt P and Zack Nimms a bit so that was also cool.
In the first event Breck went first and pulled the truck in about 55 seconds or so, it looked like a really difficult pull to because the first 10 feet or so looked really steep but it was all very visibly up hill. Then Tim went and kept trying to pull the damn truck standing up, then everybody kept yelling at him to sit down so he did just to stand back up! Anyways his time wasnt verry fast. Grant was up next and just barely missed brecks time by maybe a second. Matt Parks was up next but I dont remember his time for sure, I think it was right around a minute. Odd went next and did somewhere in the mid 40's I think and blew away the previous best time. Thne came M dub I think and he did a freaky fast pull of like 26 something. Kevin got 33 I think and then Jesse came in and either got 1st or second by like .01 seconds.
The second event was the car deadlift which I got to help with setting the weights on. Basically they just adjusted it unti I could no longer pull the thing. The way they set it up I could have pulled it but after giving it a good tug I decided not to push it since the back isnt all the way healed. Then Zack Nimms did it and said once you get it off the groun its not that bad so I WAS NOT going to let him 1 up me on that and as I was walking up the the apperatus Sarge drove off of it lol. You win this time Zack. Anyways they went ahead and put in 5-6 45's in the back to make it harder but a lot of the guys ended up zeroing on the event so it might have been slightly to heavy. in this event I think it went: Breck, Tim, Grant and Matt all with 0's. Then I think Odd and Jesse got 2, Marshall got 3 and Kevin did 5. Not entirely sure though as I wasnt able to see this event at all.
The third event was the overhead medley. They had a 320lb axle, a 320lb log and the inch dumbell and they could do the impliments in any order they wanted to with any reps after the 1st one on the inch being extra points. For the most part no one but M-Dub got the axle and only a few got the log. Mostly everyone got the dumbell though. I think Jesse or marshall won this one. The tires on the axle were filled with water which is what made this so hard I think. Most of the guys said it weiged more like 360 so we weiged it again and it was 320 on the dot, so then after that we bled some of the water out so it was probably more like 300. Also the log was wooden and most of the guys that attmpted it said that it was not balanced correctl which made it harder to do.
Next up was the tire flip. For the most part this seemed to be verry slow and heavy. It was a 925lb tire for 8 flips and most of the people got 40-59 seconds. Then Jesse comes along and smokes it in what must have been a low to mid 20's time and even picked it back up vertically so I didnt have to lol (well me and Zack). I was really impressed with Grant on this one, even though he had on of the slowest times he made that thing his B****. The tire was just about as tall as him which makes a huge difference.
The last event was the stones which were 265-330 tackyless. Both Jesse and Marshall blew through the whole run in verry fast times while everyone else seemed to be missing the last stone. Exept Tim and Odd I think got them all also, dont quote me on it though. Kevin decided to skip out on the last stone and Jesse started giving him some major crap about it and asked if anyone would be willing to give kevin a hand so marshall ran out and loaded it which was pretty funny.
Overall the standings were Jesse first, Marshall 2nd, and Kevin 3rd. I had to go help Sarge bring back the equipment to their gym so I missed being able to talk to Kevin, Kristyn and Odd which left me kind of bummed out. I talked to them a little bit before and after the show but not verry much so I was hoping to catch them. That and I was kind of in awe of Odd so I did not get much out that was legible anyways lol. During the entire show Kevin was fighting just to stay awake for the most part but from what I saw of him I would say that he is a pretty cool guy. Also during the whole show Kristyn was putting on exhibitions and I was verry impressed with the truck pull. The thing weighed about 10 thousand pounds and the first 10 feet or so was reaalllyyyy steep for a truck pull and the rest of the course was visibly up hill, I was not sure if she would make it but she did. Kory also did This along with loading a 260lb stone as an exhibition, though it did take a few tries for him to do it. He has put on like 10 lbs of muscle since the last time I saw him too which was th freaky part. Kristyn also did a deadlift with 275 for reps and got 11. I think if she hadnt dont the truck pull she would have been pulling forever lol. Then she also loaded a 160lb stone to 52". Dawson Marunde also did a little exhibition and was asked to do a clean and jerk and he did what I would call a power muscle split snatch hahah. Then with a little coaching from his dad did a pretty spiffy looking clean and jerk. After getting back from unloading stuff I got a chance to eat and sort of talk to people who were there but I was pretty tired so I did not say much before I headed out. Both Marshall and Jesse thanked me for coming though and Jesse totally hooked me up with a sweet training bag and shirt for helping out too.
