yeah, Gregor Edmunds is the one I remember most. He was always undersized but always technically sound. He didnt look like most of the other guys but always fared ok.

Jamie barr was top notch a right gutsy bastard, forbes cowen was also a good strongman and if my facts are correct an excellent bench presser. Gregor was probably the nearest thing britian has had to winning wsm since gary taylor but never got the respect he deserved because people dont like his father, ive heard people say that the events were handpicked for him but to be honest thats a load of bollocks.
Id love to see him return to strongman again and im not sure what has happend to him.

I think you may have been thinking of Brian Bell on the bench press he was a really strong guy!! with I think a 280kg unequiped bench. I competed against him in 2005 he was past his best but it was great to compete with a guy who has done what he has over the years.
You really need to get out and see some competitions in Britain and meet some of the guys competing you would see we have a whole bunch of good, young up and coming British guys we are in a position like USA were a few years ago and look how many of those young guys are proving to be great strongmen now!! Britain will be in a similar position soon with the standard getting bettter in every competition.
To a certain degree the thing with the events is sort of true he is a guy that could perform well at WSM due to it not being ridiculously heavy, he was very athletic and did well on those events but I'm sorry you can't claim to have a chance of winning WSM with a 130kg Log press and a 280kg deadlift. Granted we all have weaker events but with those lifts by todays standards he wouldn't even be getting opening lifts. I supose you can only do well in the events that are in front of you and he did that so he does deserve some respect.
As far as I understand he does highland games full time now and is very good at it so I can't imagine he would want to return to the strongman world.

When i say gregor was the nearest thing to a brit winning wsm, i was refereing to his placing, i didnt mean hes the best we have had because he obviously wasnt.
Ive now finally got over the whole IFSA debate and realise i was wrong by saying super series guys werent up for the job, and with yourself and saddler, thompson, felix etc i know that we now finallly have world class athletes in the coutry
im now concentrating on being a strongman fan and not an IFSA fan, so apologies for any offence that could have been taken from my posting.
cheers

I've seen him also at powerlifting comps coaching a few young lifters, still looks in good shape and was awesome throughout his lifting carreer (powerlifting and strongman).
Seen Jamie Barr refereeing a few strongman comps and I think he still trains strongman at Markinch (Also won Scotlands Strongestman last year). I remember watching Jamie Barr on tv, he'd always give his all and looked liked he was having a great time!
Always liked watching Gregor and Forbes they were really athletic and gutsy!
What about Brian Turner he was another great scottish powerlifter and strongman what ever happened to him? Did hear he moved to the U.S. a few years ago, did he continue to compete?
Also how can you forget the old war horse Stuart Murray, your stereotypical strongman. :F: One of the best scottish strongmen and still competing from time to time!

Right to start with there was only 1 group that year with no O/H press, guess which group that was. Weight throw, can't remember what it was that year but if it was WFH then that is a highland games event which he would obvioulsy be very good at. Car pull, although I know Gregor is a good TRUCK puller a car would suit a fast guy. No deadlift or squat that year. Just a few things to think about.

i think gregor was a good strongman.he finished runner up at the britians in 2002 and 2003 and beat a lot of good guys.he wasnt statically great but he was about 6 feet 5 and after all u can only do the events that are in front of u.i remember the qualifier for the 2003 bsm and he whipped them apart from the cage deadlift.plus hes a good looking Edit: watch your language

Even BSM was made to suit Gregor - The squat in 02 was somthing like 235kg for reps and I dont think he did many of them if any!

Squatting has improved a lot over the last couple of years, I think last time I had a squat in comp was in 2005 and it's improved a hell of alot since then. I certainly wouldn't be failling 235kg I'd be closer to 100kg more than that before I started to struggle these days.
I don't wanna turn this into a I can do this, I can do that arguement but 330kg unequipped is hardly what most people would consider .... .
