Does anyone have any info on Big Tony's contest on August 20th? I saw that it is a Pro-Am and was curious who else is doing it - pros or ams.

Here is a link to his site: http://www.bigtonyscrivens.com/
Click on the button that says NEWSC 2005 and you'll find all the info. He has a section that lists who is already registered in the various categories.

Shawn,
Big Tony's show is now a Pro-am and from the looks of it this will be the last Pro-am of the year. so for those of you that have come close or want to have a shot at turning pro as a LW or HW this is your chance. Right now we have 12 people signed up with another 10 confirmed (just waiting for the entries). We already have almost $5000 in prize money and looking to bump that up to even more once the rest of the entries come in. For those of you planning on coming and have had a taste of Big tony's cooking get your entries in! I would hate to be first for the first event (tire flip and frame carry). For entry info and directions go to www.bigtonyscrivens.com click on NEWSC 2005 and there it is. For those of you curious about the events I'll list them below.
tire flip/ frame carry
LW - 2 flips 800lbs tire and 600 frame carry for 40 feet
Hw - 2 flips 1100lb tire and 700 frame carry for 40 feet
Conans wheel
LW - haven't determined the weight but will be comparable to other conans for LW's
HW - Harley sportster (sp?) on a conans wheel like pro nationals
Log Medley (this one is fun!)
LW two 8in logs (225,250) one 10in log (275) and one 12in log 300lbs
HW same log progression only higher weights (250, 275, 300, and 325) 60 seconds
Silver dollar deadlift for max
4 attempts with 50lb jumps on 1500lb rated bars off 4x4 blocks (it's 18in pull)
Atlas stones
We have patched tony's stones for this year and added a few. all to 52 inch platforms 60 seconds time limit. tacky as much as you want
LW - 250 - 275 - 300 - 340 - 365
HW - 275 - 300 - 340 - 365 - 390 Stones might change depending on wether we get them finished.
For teens and women with questions about your events please be patient we are getting the weights finalized this week. if anyone has questions please feel free to contact me at unbreakable285@yahoo.com
By the way pro's and Am's compete for the money and the top placing amatuer gets his pro card and possibly some cash so let's see those entries.

Thanks for the information - great post! I like the fact that it is a Pro-Am and Am's can win $!
Thanks again!
I have always wanted to do the show just because of the rumor of the killer food afterwards

Jason, is there a limit on the number of competitors? I'm planning on getting my entry in soon, but I don't mind going near the front.

There is not a limit on the entries as of now. If you want an event t-shirt with your name in bold on the back you will have to get it in a couple of weeks before the show. The deadline is on the entry form on Big Tony's site.

Nick,
Not sure if Brian is competing or not? Big Tony said it's a possibility.

Jason, I heard a rumor from someone (I can't remember who) that one of the events has changed. Is this true?

lhprop1,
the events and weights are still the same for the LW and HW. The only events that have been modified over the last month are the women's mainly due to lack of equipment or time to build it.

Great fun show with the best food you'll ever get at a meet after. This is the first year I can't make it & it's killing me.

lhprop1,
Great to hear you decided to compete. Forgive me for asking but what's your name and what class are you entering? Can't tell who you are by the pic.
John,
Sorry to hear you can't make it but, don't worry I'll make sure to eat an extra piece of cheescake for you!
For all the other strongman out there this is the last Pro-Am of ther year. If your competing in another comp the same weekend or injured I can understand not seeing your entry but for everyone else that wants to turn pro why not come up and put it on the line and see what happens?

Jason- It sucks to miss the show, but I had a small umbilical hernia repair 10 days ago & I'm not supposed to touch a weight for another week (like that's happened). I'm training grip mainly for the Grip show I'm putting on in Oct. I'll start event training the end of sept & get in shape for the Snowman. I'm thinking my Pro career has pretty much been on hold since 2003 Nats - New baby, build the house, now I'm starting a magazine. I figure maybe a final run at Nats in 2007. If I don't make the finals, then that's a sign to give up the pro status & go to ams for the masters. Or to Pro masters if that happens. I don't want to be the guy who held on too long - kind of feeling that way after Denver....lol. I stank that meet up. Last training day 310 log for 3 - clean each time. Contest day - 0. Conan's wheel (one of my best events) - stumbled at 1/4 turn, got barely over 1/2 turn. Finally got to do power stairs, though - very fun! Enjoy the cheesecake & ribs!

Sure wish more HW would of turned out but we have a pretty good field considering the pros and am's are combined. The Lightweights will definetly have a battle for the pro card.
John,
Just finished my last meal and hopefully I can get a good night sleep. Hope you heal up fast and your new magazine looks very impressive. Let me know when you get the details ready for the snowman.
