Looking forward to this. I think MTV filmed some of his training when he was down here in AZ at Liane Blyn's old house. I talked to Kevin about it, he just said he hopes they portray everything accurately and that it brings more interest/awareness to the sport.

BTW...

It's MTV "True Life"

and

Kevin Nee (no 'k' haha)

friends and i long awaited this episode (actually, it will be the only one i've seen on mtv, as school doesn't allow time for cable tv), especially since he competed in april (with jesse, travis, corey, etc...) here in hawaii. glad to see strongman exposure toward the youth of the US.

Is he seriously still a teen? Man, that's crazy that he's at the level he is at his age. Insane.
Pat, I've heard things about him, such as he has done farmer's holds with 400# per hand. I wonder if he'll be at NAS Teen Nats?

holy crap, 19yrs old,6'1", 228lbs, 420 bench,700 dl, 500 squat, and is pro after only ten shows!! some how by some miracle i have to do close to it so i dont look bad

Jamie McEwan

Trust me, you don't look bad, and won't even at numbers far lower than those at 19!

hes born in 85 which makes him 20 this year. can he still compete as a teen?
those numbers are crazy at his bodyweight though :mag:

Kevin earned his pro card in hawaii if i am not mistaken, so he will not be competing in any teen divisions.

He could if he wanted in powerlifting, but I doubt he will. He can't in Strongman because he had a lightweight pro card and now has a heavyweight pro card. This kid (funny to call him that because I am only 23) is pretty impressive. I hope he'll be at pro nationals because I think he may shake some things up.

The show is 10pm Pacific Time here in Seattle area...I looked it up on my Digital Cable guide.

I got to meet him at the Hawaii's Strongest Man show back in April, and kid is a FREAK! One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. If he wasn't having problems with the heat/humidity that day, he would have placed way higher in the overalls. Plus, he is RIPPED!

Travis, good luck at Nats later this month man!

Thanks for the heads up Jesse. I'll be watching. For his age and Ht./Wt. those numbers are awesome. Some of you guys that know him (prostrongmen) should try and get him on the board.

Jesse, at the end of the show they flashed a picture of him standing next to someone holding a trophy. That was you bro! I'm sure of it

Yeah man, that show was tight. Honestly, I didn't think Kevin stood a chance going against guys like Steve MacD, but it just goes to show that strongman is all about strength and endurance. And yes, that definitely was Jesse and Kevin next to one another.

just got done watching the show, hes pretty damn strong. By looking at him i would guess he was definately heavier considering hes 6'2.

hey guys thanks for all the positive feed back... i just want to do as much as possible for the sport. I am also very pleased with the way mtv portrayed me. I think they made me look pretty intelligent and made the sport seem extremely competitive (which it is). once again thanks for all the positive feed back.

Kev Nee

P.S. the weight that is listed (228) thats about 20 pounds off.

not to mention steve mac and dione wesslels, i was dissapointed in how dull the crowd was though,at a couple of points during the competition i was expecting to hear a lone baby crying or something, so scince you are obviously bigger now, have any of your stats changed from on the nas web site????

Ps. nice to have you here Kevin :D

Kevin Nee
07-08-2005, 11:02 PM
Two of my stats have definatley changed since those were last posted. i hit two new PRs yesterday at the gym. Squatted 615 for 2 and then did deadlifts immediatley after and worked up to 725 for two. to sum it up...im just really proud of my squat because a year or two ago at this time i would have been around 400.

oh and thanks.... its nice to be here

Patrick McGuffin
07-08-2005, 11:12 PM
wow your squat was as pathetic as mine... :T: (though it is really impressive now)oh well my deadlift is better(kinda)
16yrs old 225lbs, bench 260, squat 405, deadlift 450, i have a ways to go.......

Great to have you here Kevin.

I used to train with Bruce Tessier and Derek Ward at the Body Shop so it was nice to see them on MTV. Great guys with loads of knowledge.

Great job Kevin and best of luck. :KD:

Hopedale Ma is where i was born and raised but i moved to Arizona the day i turned 18 to go to school. i kind of came out here to train with Liane blyn and her husband. She was the strength coach for ASU up until 3 months ago.

Also, Nathan, how long have you known Bruce and co. If it wasnt for Bruce Tessier i wouldnt even have been in the sport. he introduced me to the sport when i was 15 and pretty much taught me everything i know along with Liane Blyn. Thanks Bruce and Liane.

Kevin,
I met Bruce at my first competition (2003)at the Atlantis strongman comp that KAZ was judging here in Paxton. We talked a bit and he invited me out to train strongman.I wish that I could make it our there more often but it is and hour drive and after trainig I barely made it home. :) . He taught me alot and am extremely grateful for it.

I have since started a training facility here in Paxton,MA and have groups training a few days a week for strongman. I dont know if you know Carlos Amantea but he comes around once in a while to train.

Kevin Nee
07-10-2005, 06:26 PM
Yes i know Carlos very well. we use to train every week together for atleast 2 years. how is he doing...has he made any progress....is his weight still around 300?

Matt Burns
07-10-2005, 07:42 PM
Kevin, conrad's on the great show. I tivo'ed it and watched it before I trained earlier. Definetly motivating. It'll be fun to see how huge you are in two years. Could you talk about your training alittle? Is it a straight forward Sq and dead day, overhead day and an evemt day? Any training advice thats helped you the most? Will you be coming home this summer to train in MA? Thanks and good luck in future comp's.

nathan fitzgerald
07-10-2005, 08:15 PM
Carlos is taking it easy right now and is back in school. He has a couple of disks in his back that are messed up pretty bad and I guess that the surgery for it will be complicated because of an artery that is involved . He still weighs around 320 .

Kevin Nee
07-11-2005, 03:34 AM
my training is very basic mon-shoulders tues-back and bi wed-strongman thurs-legs, squats deads and other basic movements, fri- chest tri and sun- strongman. sat day off. and yes i will be coming home this summer and training for a week. i will be home the 14th of august till the 21st.

i mean i am no genious when it comes to training ...but if you ever have any questions with strongman, there is nothing more that i enjoy talking about.

Josh Thigpen
07-11-2005, 12:57 PM
Kevin the show was awesome man. I liked watching your training the best. I think I may love the training side of strongman just as much if not more then the competition. I was in Arizona last week for about 5 days for a wedding, I should of come and trained with you man but I forget you were in Zona. Anyways good stuff, I will see you at nationals.

Kevin, congrats on the business school. I'm an ASU business grad myself and know that it's pretty tough to get accepted.

We should work out a time to train events at Epiphany on a Sunday. I should be starting up again soon, been resting long enough since the last contest. Liane said you'd be calling me about stones, not sure if you lost my number, but if you need it I can PM you. Last time I was at Epiphany the stones looked pretty bad. I've been making my own and will be building platforms this week. Should have a nice setup very soon.

See ya later.

p.s. i liked the show and it's cool MTV did what you wanted with it and even more. hopefully will spark more interest out here in AZ.

Hey Kevin, I'm glad you're posting here. As another 19 year old, I've kind of been feeling like I'm needing to catch up since I've heard about you! Keep it up.
Any time you come to BC, Canada, you've got a place to train and eat barbequed food!
Send me an e-mail some time. jamiemce@hotmail.com
