What supplements are you taking?
There is such a wide variety of commercial supplements available to athlete's these days, a guy could spend a fortune on pills, powders, or a variety of potions. It's been my experience that most of them are junk, but for some people they actually produce positive results.
So I was wondering what supplements other people were taking and what kind of results they were having?
Thanks,
Allan

I just use protien shakes. I have come to the same conclusion you have......the supplement industry is a scam.

Protein, multi-vitamin, Glucosamine, choindritin (sp?), MSM, T-3 (thyroid enhancer), Fish oil, flax seed oil, and more protein. I just started using creatine last week. I have recently started adding maltodextrin to my pre and post workout whey protein shakes and have noticed improvements all the way around.

Creatine Ethyl Ester
Whey Protein
Multivitamin
I'd like to start Glucosamine/Chondroiten this fall, but it's fairly expensive.
A side note: I've been using Creatine for most of my training life, however CEE is awesome! I've been on it for about 6 weeks and it's good stuff. Better than powder monohydrate.

Are you talking about the CEE? Its an ethylated creatine.. there are huge claims out there for it, and no scientific backup. However it does work better than monohydrate IMO.

I just started taking the Omega Sports Thunder CEE about 1.5 weeks ago.. My weight hasn't gone up but my endurance has.. ie the number of reps I can acheive with a given weight. I like it.. it doesn't bloat me out like the monohydrate does... plus it comes in handy pills not powder.
I dig it
other than that I'm taking %100 whey, glutamine, animal pak vitamins, thunder CEE, egg whites, and fiber to keep it all moving ;)

the CEE I have is from bulk nutrition. I have used it once. It tastes absoluty disgusting. I am going to ship it to Jacob because he loves drinking shit. Do you have a link to the CEE you are taking? I would be willing to try it if it were in pill form (I know...I am a sissy..shut up Jake.).

Yeah, I couldn't tell you the scientific reasons as to why it's better than monohydrate, but my strength increases in my cleans have gone up dramtically in the last 6 weeks since I started it. Only thing I can attribute this recent success would be that I switched from powder monohydrate to pill form CEE.

the ethylated creatine has a better absorbtion rate through the gut wall then the monohydrate.

thanks...one more thing....
I know with creatine I usually gain some water weight. Did you find yourself gaining anyway on this product? The only reason I ask is because I need to make 77kg (170lbs...I am at 175....I know, I am a light weight...go on and make fun of me) for an olympic lifting meet in 4 weeks.

For a while, I was taking a protein shake, but I didn't notice any difference.
As of the last few months, the only think I take is Emer'gen-C (http://www.alacer.com/cgi-bin/dbsearch.exe?mdb=/products.mdb,tbl=products,DB_code=54,DBCOMP=ABS,te mplate=/products/returntitle.htm) made by Alacer. It's got 1000mg of Vitamin C and a bunch of B vitamins. I usually take 2-3/day and I've seen very positive results.

Hey Patrick, personally I havent gained any weight on it.. but I have read where people have. I'm dropping weight as well so that might be why. Dude don't sweat the weight.. I'm 183. I still love watching the 77 WSM with Franco Columbo weiging in at around 180.. he was kickin ass until he blew his knee out. I think it would be cool as shit to see someone under 200 lbs be competitive in strongman...
If you need to drop weight for a meet.. I wouldn't risk it.. there is nothing worse than trying to drop weight the last few days before a meet.. coming in weak wondering if you could have been stronger

Lots of protein since I usually get it for free, fish oils, flax oil, post-workout recovery drinks, and I'm starting creatine up again, just regular 'ol monohydrate.

i am drinking my first muscle milk shake right now. i am amazed at the taste. i bought the mocha joe flavor, its great, tastes like coffee ice cream. the only negative is that it's caffeinated and i usually train in the evening. i didn't know that when i ordered it but oh well, it's awesome. you can get the 2.48lb jug for 19.99 from www.dpsnutrition.com
i also take one animal pak and some weight gainer every day. i have been using "muscle juice" weight gainer but i just got some n-large 2 to try.
i use a cup of dry milk powder in all of my shakes. that's a good amount of milk protein and it's 6.99 for a 10 lb box where i buy it. it doesn't taste as good as regular milk, but you can add about 3/4 of a gallon worth of milk nutrients into a regular 16 oz protein shake.

Thanks for the idea, I might have to try that. I currently drink ~1/2gal of non-fat milk per day, I would like to drink more, but that seems to be my upper limit for lactose (or something) as I start to feel bloated with anymore. Does the dry milk have the lactose issues?

non fat milk? Do you like that better? What makes your drink that compared to vitamin D? Non fat looks watered down like crazy and doesnt look very good to drink. I am drinking 1/2 gallon of vitamin D and it helps quite a bit in weight gain. (that along with other diet stuff)

I don't notice any difference between non-fat and 2% (which is what I was raised on) for taste. I drink milk mainly for the extra protein and calcium. I have no problem gaining weight, my problem is keeping my wieght down, currently over 300, don't know exactly as I have broke the last two scales I bought :o .

i can't help you with the lactose tolerance thing, i have superhuman abilities to digest the stuff. however, the label says per 1/3 cup powder there are 8 grams protein and 12 grams sugar. the ingredients listed in order are; nonfat dry milk, vitamin a, palmitate, vitamin d3.
palmitate: an antioxidant and a vitamin a compound that is added to low-fat and fat-free milk to replace the vitamin content lost through the removal of milk fat. it's a fatty acid that comes from palm oil.
therefore it is a safe bet that it is pretty high in lactose (milk sugar) since there are no added sugars, but these numbers are exactly the same as listed for regular 2%milk.
so if you can handle large doses of regular milk, this shouldn't be a problem. keep in mind that if you use less water your drink will be more concentrated than regular milk. your body uses water to digest sugars, so you may need to increase your water intake to replace what would normally have been included in the milk.
i'll try not to write so much next time.

Have you tried lactose free milk? I am lactose intolerant and I have no problem drinking it in pretty large quantities. The only problem is that it can be expensive.

No I haven't. I am not 100% sure it is lactose, I have never had lactose problems before, but i have never tried to drink this much milk per day before. I has hopeing it was just a too much liquid in a day thing, I drink 1.5+ gallons of water + the 1/2 gal of milk/day. But I may try a couple of gallons of the lactose free stuff to see.
Thanks
