Gerard is a great guy. He was very polite in Fresno when my drunk little sister was betting him that she could beat him up on the cab ride back to the hotel. After we dropped her off, here is the conversation he and I had:
Gerard: "Clay."
me: "Yeah?"
Gerard: "You know I could have taken on your sister, right?"
me: "yeah, no doubt about it."
Classy guy!

Same here. I still remember exactly where i was. I was in 6th grade English and when they announced it no one knew what had happened. I just remember my best friend leaving school early because his dad worked at a Laser Tag in Manhattan.

True as it may be, I would never refer to him as "stubby." Not to his face anyway. Or anywhere near him. Good article.

Awesome read Al, thanks for posting it. I've competed with Gerard at least a half dozen times, he is a great competitor and I would even call him a friend. Despite several career ending injuries, he still competes and does well. The guy is a class act and I truly enjoy the time I spend with him. My girlfriend loves him to death, she thinks he's a huge teddy bear!! Thats the great thing about Strongman, you develop these friendships over the years to the point that every competition is like a reunion. When I sign up for a contest I usually comb the competitor list to see which friends are coming to the next one!!

Thanks for posting the link. It is always inspirational to read first hand accounts of 9-11 from those who were there.
