Lately I've been trying to train 2x a day. Well, I've been going 2x, 1x, 2x, off.

On the 2nd workout I am dead! Minimal energy, lots of strength loss, just everything really stinks. I am usually doing strongman events in the morning and gym lifts in the afternoon. I am also eating everything in sight and my sleep is over 8 hours.

Who all does 2 a days and what is a normal split?

or, do you think they are not as beneficial as just 1x?

I remember reading once that Jesse Marunde said almost all top athletes in the world train at least 2x a day. With that being said, I know I am not yet a top athlete so I shouldnt gimmick their exact routines, but, what would be a good routine or do you think I should do away with it because my recovery time is limited?

When doing 2xdays, you have to make sure that the volume per sessions decreases as the frequency increases. It would be prudent to do different types of work per session (ie events in the morning, hypertrophy work in the even with higher reps). At the very least, do something a little different.

You also have to build up your conditioning. I know that when I do 3xdays, I hit rock bottom after day 3, but then rebound on day 4 and carry out the week. (note I only do that kind of volume extremely sporadically). If i do 2xdays, its not all that bad since Im pretty conditioned to it, things start clearing up after about day 3 as well.

Jared, when I do 2 x days I do the morning real light. Something like running stairs or Marshall White's evil 1:10:1 program for cleans at something like 45 or 55 lbs. Take a nap, eat and lift again. I still do lose a little strength but my cardio, foot speed, and strength have gone up since doing these. I don't do them all the time maybe twice or 3 times max per week.
