I've been wondering about what constitutes a World Record. One federation has their official stones and other implements so that's the guage they go by. What if someone else does exceptionally well with implements of another federation's contest that are slightly different in weight and dimensions?
Is all this simply a way of one federation trying to claim dominence in the sport or a generally accepted standard??

It's done so that there can be a "standard" by which to go by. There really is no point in having a world record if your going to be using different implements. I have used a lot of different kind of farmers and they all felt alittle different, same goes with log.

Obviously, but does that mean for anyone to do stones at a high degree of proficiency they have to have the same apparatus IFSA uses made of pipe and platforms are in a circle?
Also, do the stones have to be an exact diameter for a given weight?
There are many variables to consider with weights and dimensions.

The world record is set on an exact apparatus where everything is standardized. Meaning if you wished to set a WR in the IFSA stones, it would have to be on the IFSA ring with the exact stones IFSA uses.
